Former IZ*ONE member and solo artist Lee Chae Yeon has issued a public apology following a dispute with fans of the boy group ONF regarding her recent YouTube content.
On May 23, Lee Chae Yeon uploaded a video on her YouTube channel "ChaericChaeric Chae Yeon", which showed the preparation process for a flea market held at her home. Several of her close artist friends joined the event, including singer Baekho, Lovelyz's Kei, dancer Lee Sang Hee, and ONF members E-TION, Seungjun, and Minkyun.
The controversy began after the video was released. Some ONF fans criticized Lee Chae Yeon, saying it was inappropriate for ONF members to appear in non-official content so close to their solo concert, which was just a week away.
In response, Lee Chae Yeon addressed the issue through a lengthy message on a fan communication platform. She explained that since starting her YouTube channel, she had never invited anyone with negative intentions and that every thumbnail and video upload was reviewed and approved. She also stated that she was always ready to correct any mistakes or shortcomings.
She further clarified the situation surrounding the flea market. According to her, the preparations had been announced in advance, but her company had not been aware and later requested that the preparation video not be uploaded. She expressed her frustration, saying that if concerns existed, those involved should have chosen not to participate. She also questioned why other guest sellers and the production team had to face the consequences.
Lee Chae Yeon revealed that the flea market schedule had actually been adjusted to accommodate ONF. She said she had initially suggested canceling it due to scheduling conflicts, but the ONF members were eager to participate. The event was arranged around their fan signing event, and she made efforts to coordinate guest appearances accordingly.
She expressed her disappointment, saying the artists genuinely wanted to connect with fans and had prepared with enthusiasm. She questioned the extent of her responsibility and firmly stated that she would no longer invite them to appear, even if they wished to. She emphasized that she would take responsibility to avoid further misunderstandings.
Acknowledging the criticism, she added that while some might question her authority in the situation, she had always wanted to support her fellow artists. She expressed deep regret and said she was even willing to remove the video if ONF fans requested it.
As the debate spread online and more opinions emerged, Lee Chae Yeon posted a follow-up message. She said she felt it would be wrong to remain silent and risk causing further misunderstandings. She admitted that her original message had been written late at night while she was feeling emotional, and upon reflection, it came across as more emotional than intended.
She went on to say that she understands people have different opinions and that not all voices represent the majority. She expressed sincere regret to those who were hurt and said she felt responsible for disturbing the excitement surrounding the upcoming fan event.
In her closing remarks, she asked everyone to calm down and support each other. She acknowledged the difficulties of life in a harsh world and encouraged kindness and understanding. She promised to do her best not to hurt fans or her fellow artists again and said she would strive to act in a way she could be proud of.
