tvN’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama 'Head Over Heels' is set to premiere on Monday, June 23.
Directed by Kim Yong Wan and written by Yang Ji Hoon, with planning by CJ ENM and production by Studio Dragon, Dexter Studios, and E.O. Contents Group, the show is already drawing attention. On May 27th, the production team released captivating character posters featuring Cho Yi Hyun, Choo Young Woo, and Choo Ja Hyun, showcasing their unique and mystical personas.
Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, 'Head Over Heels' follows a boy destined to die and a shaman girl from the MZ generation who sets out to defy that fate. Together, they embark on a bold and emotional first-love rescue romance.
Park Seong Ah, a high school student and secret shaman, fights to save Bae Gyeon Woo, the boy who matches her ideal type, after he unexpectedly enters her shrine. Their story promises a mix of youthful excitement and emotional depth. The drama also features episodes with Korean ghosts, each with distinct personalities and backstories, adding a supernatural flair to the plot.
Director Kim Yong Wan, known for his strong visual storytelling in works like 'The Whirlwind,' 'The Cursed,' and 'If You Wish Upon Me,' joins forces with writer Yang Ji Hoon to heighten viewer anticipation. The character posters released spark even more curiosity about the drama’s core trio.
First is Park Seong Ah, played by Cho Yi Hyun. Living a double life as a student by day and a shaman by night, she exudes a mysterious and spiritual energy. From the moment Bae Gyeon Woo stumbles into her shrine, she does everything she can to protect him from misfortune. The tagline on her poster, "A girl who saves with all her might," hints at her determined efforts to rewrite his fate and protect her first love.
Bae Gyeon Woo, portrayed by Choo Young Woo, also leaves a strong impression. Shown standing upside down in the shrine, his expression is calm yet tinged with sadness, suggesting a life filled with hardship. As a boy born with a doomed fate, his journey with Seong Ah raises the question of whether love can truly overcome destiny.
Lastly, Choo Ja Hyun plays Yeomhwa, a shaman who turned into a ghost to survive. Watching Seong Ah and Gyeon Woo through a narrow crack in a door, her cold and piercing gaze evokes chills. Yeomhwa is a complex figure who deceives the vulnerable while hiding deep emotional scars, having chosen darkness in her pursuit of survival. How she connects to Seong Ah’s mission and Gyeon Woo’s fate adds intrigue and depth to the story.
With its compelling mix of romance, suspense, and supernatural elements, 'Head Over Heels' is poised to captivate audiences when it premieres in June.
