SM Entertainment updates legal action against defamatory and harassing posts targeting aespa.
SM Entertainment (hereafter SM) has provided an update on its legal actions against individuals posting defamatory and sexually harassing content about aespa.
On February 11th KST, SM announced via KWANGYA 119 that it has been collecting evidence through fan reports and internal monitoring of malicious posts and comments directed at aespa. Based on this evidence, the company has filed lawsuits for defamation, insult, and the creation and distribution of manipulated false videos.
SM revealed that many suspects have been identified and are currently under investigation, with some already referred to the prosecution and receiving final court rulings. Notably, some individuals who distributed manipulated videos via Telegram have been convicted under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes and received summary orders (fines).
The company reaffirmed its commitment to strong legal action against malicious posts, videos, and images targeting aespa, both domestically and internationally. SM concluded by stating, “we will continue to do our best to protect the rights and interests of our artists.”
