The late actress Kim Soo Mi was reportedly working on a book that offered her reflections on life, including her final advice and messages for her family and fellow actors in the industry.
In an interview with Yonhap News on October 26, Kim Soo Mi's son, Jung Myung Ho, who serves as the director of Nappak F&B, and her daughter-in-law, actress Seo Hyo Rim, revealed that Kim had been writing a book titled 'Goodbye' before her passing.
Jung Myung Ho explained that while his mother remained deeply dedicated to her work, she seemed to be quietly organizing her life as well. "My mother always enjoyed writing, and when I went home, I found quite a few handwritten manuscripts. She had already chosen the title, 'Goodbye.' The book also mentioned her wish to volunteer through cooking after retirement," he shared.
Kim Soo Mi, who had always been supportive of young actors, also included advice for those still finding their way in the industry. Jung Myung Ho shared her final message: "Even if things are difficult now, and you're going through a slump, this industry eventually rewards those who persevere. Never give up halfway."
Her daughter-in-law, Seo Hyo Rim, remembered Kim Soo Mi as a kind-hearted person, despite her "tough" image.
She said, "Kim Soo Mi was thrilled to have a second peak in her career with 'Soo Mi's Side Dishes,' after spending much of her life known as the role Mother Ilyong from 'Country Diary.' She would say, 'I've always been called the 'swearing grandma,' but these days, people call me 'teacher.' You have no idea how good that makes me feel.'"
Reflecting on his mother's passing, Jung Myung Ho expressed, "We hope that you remember Kim Soo Mi, who always stayed close to viewers with her love and passion for acting. My family and I will never forget the support and love you've given over the years and will live with a grateful heart. We extend our sincere gratitude to those who join us in mourning her passing."
We offer our deepest condolences to Kim Soo Mi's family and fans.
