Actor Jo In Sung opened up about his thoughts on marriage during a recent guest appearance on the YouTube channel 'Heartfelt Brother Shin Dong Yeop', which was released on September 9th.
Shin Dong Yeop complimented Jo In Sung, saying, "Your real-life appearance is a knockout. The camera doesn't capture it all." Jo In Sung humorously responded, "It's frustrating. Technology still isn't advanced enough, is it?" causing laughter.
Jo In Sung also shared an anecdote about his childhood appearance, "My lips used to be really red when I was younger. While filming an SBS drama, senior actor Lee Deok Hwa, who was sharing the set with me, commented, 'Can't you do something about your red lips?' I told him, 'Sorry, but this is my natural lip color, there's nothing I can do,' and he suggested toning it down with powder." He added that, "Now that I'm older, it's not like that anymore."
Shin Dong Yeop joked about the myth that passing on a cold helps cure it, asking Jo In Sung if anyone had ever caught his redness. Jo In Sung initially denied it, but quickly added with a grin, "I think I might have passed it on once."
Reflecting on his early acting days, Jo In Sung reminisced about his experience working on the sitcom 'Jump' after 'Three Guys and Three Girls'. He shared, "Back then, the atmosphere was more romantic and lively at the old Yeouido MBC studios. Meeting senior actors in the hallway, grabbing coffee from vending machines—it was a memorable time. If the security guard recognized you, you'd pass through; otherwise, you'd have to manually sign in."
Jo In Sung, who had a memorable love-line with Park Kyung Lim in the popular sitcom 'New Nonstop', also expressed nostalgia for sitcoms, saying, "Sometimes I miss those days. I wonder why they don't make sitcoms like that anymore."
On the topic of drinking, Jo In Sung admitted, "I used to drink well back in the day," and shared a piece of advice from his mother: "She once told me, 'Anyone can work diligently, but not everyone can play diligently. You should play well, too. A lot of accidents happen because people don't know how to play properly.'" Shin Dong Yeop quipped, "I bet even your mother didn't expect you'd be this diligent!"
Regarding marriage, Jo In Sung spoke candidly about his current thoughts. "My mom says that even if I don't get married, I should have a child, because then the child will be like a friend to me. But I told her, 'I don't feel like we're friends, so why would a child make a difference? Besides, having a child out of nowhere would be a scandal, something you'd see on the news! It's just not realistic.'"
Jo In Sung reflected on his parents' perspective, acknowledging that while he's living a happy life, loved by the public, "I may never fully understand just how happy my mother is because of me." He added, "People say raising a family is part of a 'normal' life, but that 'normal' seems so difficult that those who manage it must be truly amazing. Sometimes, we look to famous seniors for guidance, but in reality, it's our own parents who are the most reliable teachers."
He also admitted that as a son, he sometimes found himself thinking, "'If only my parents had loved me more or provided more for me, maybe my life would have turned out differently.' But now I realize that just having no problems and being here is a huge accomplishment on their part."
When Shin Dong Yeop playfully suggested that only parents can truly understand such feelings, Jo In Sung humorously looked around and said, "Come on out, say hi to your uncle," pretending to introduce an imaginary child.
As for marriage, Jo In Sung revealed, "I'm content with where I am now. Whether I date or not, I'm satisfied with my life as it is. I don't feel extreme pressure to get married, but I also don't think I absolutely won't get married." He lightheartedly added, "I joke with my friends that I'll be the first to move into a senior residence. It might actually be the better option. Sometimes, having too much information makes it harder to make decisions. Maybe I should have done things when I knew less."
