Nam Tae Hyun & ex-girlfriend 'Heart Signal' contestant Seo Min Jae sentenced for illegal drug use

AKP STAFF

Nam Tae Hyun and 'Heart Signal' contestant Seo Min Jae have been sentenced for illegal drug use.

On January 18, former WINNER member Nam Tae Hyun and his ex-girlfriend Seo Min Jae, who recently changed her name to Seo Eun Woo, were officially given their sentences by the Seoul Central District Court.

Nam Tae Hyun was sentenced to 1 year in prison suspended for 2 years, and Seo Eun Woo was sentenced to 10 months suspended for 2 years, which means neither will spend time in jail unless they break their probation within 2 years. The judge further ordered Nam Tae Hyun and Seo Eun Woo to 40 hours of drug rehabilitation and a fine of 550,000 Won ($411.33 USD) and 450,000 Won ($336.54 USD), respectively.

According to the judge, the two were given suspended sentences because neither had a criminal history. The judge stated, "Nam Tae Hyun abused methamphetamine while being charged with marijuana, and that warrants a harsher sentence. However, I considered the fact he had never been charged with a similar crime and the fact he promised to quit drugs and has a willingness to rehabilitate. Seo Min Jae is also a first-time offender with no criminal record, and she's currently in rehabilitation."

In other news, both Nam Tae Hyun and Seo Eun Woo admitted to their drug charges and made public apologies in October of last year.

I feel so sad for Tae-hyun, for how his life turned out. I just wish he’d find the happiness he’s been searching for.

That seems reasonable for South Korea, I'm glad they're both getting treatment rather than any jail time. I hope he manages to get the right medication for his condition now, and that he can get his career back on track - internationally if not at home. Although maybe he's been penitent enough for the denizens of the pit to forgive him as well? I've not heard the hate being directed at him as I have at some other stars who have fallen.
