Comedian Ahn Young Mi has found herself embroiled in controversy over giving birth while out in the United States.

The situation all started when comedian Shin Bong Sun posted a video on YouTube on May 4 KST, and mentioned, "Ahn Young Mi will soon leave for the United States to give birth." Ahn Young Mi's husband is currently working in the United States, and Ahn Young Mi, whose due date is approaching, chose to be with her husband.

Immediately after the video was released, some raised suspicions that Ahn Young Mi intended to give birth overseas in order to give her child dual citizenship and perhaps the ability to evade military service in the future.

In response, Ahn Young Mi said, “It seems like the military issue is something too far out to think about,” and continued, “Rather than speculating about an unknown future, why don’t you bless the child who is still squirming around the stomach right now?”

Ahn Young Mi concluded by saying, “whether my husband was in Vietnam or the Philippines, I would have gone. This precious time of pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare, which may only be once in a lifetime event, how can I do that all by myself? I needed to be with my loving husband.”
