Impact of Kim Taehyung's 'Borahae' spreads as Busan City is painted purple for BTS's 'Yet to Come in Busan' concert

On October 15, BTS had their historic 'Yet to Come in Busan' concert at Busan Asiad Main Stadium to help the city’s 2030 World Expo bid.

Busan City dyed itself purple and transformed into 'BTS City' to commemorate and celebrate the BTS concert. Every major and minor landmark, public and tourist spots, and billboards were illuminated in purple light to welcome the BTS members and ARMY.

In their coverage of the Busan concert, numerous K-media outlets highlighted the impact of 'Borahae (I Purple You)' created by Kim Taehyung, aka V, in making purple the band's representative color.

From Gwangan Bridge to Busan Tower, the Cinema Center, Namhang Bridge, Songdo Cable Car, and Dadae Sunset Fountain, major landmarks that come to mind when you think of Busan were colored purple.

Here are some of the main attractions for Busan City turning into 'Boraland.'

  • "Bora Road"

The surrounding roads of Busan Asiad Main Stadium were decorated with 600 purple lights, creating a 'Bora Road.'

  • Gwangandaegyo Bridge (Diamond Bridge)

Busan's famous bridge lit up in purple to welcome BTS and ARMY.

  • Paradise Hotel Busan

Paradise Hotels, one of Busan's Biggest, lit up in purple and provided BTS-themed special services and packages exclusive for ARMYs visiting the city.

  • Lotte World Adventure Busan

A 'Purple Lights Up' event was held in Lotte World Adventure Busan as it transformed into a BTS theme park. Newly decorated rides, photo zones, afterparties, firework shows with BTS theme, and the color purple were all part of the event.

  • Police around Busan Asiad Main Stadium

South Korean police wearing purple masks were patrolling around the stadium to guide and provide translations to foreign fans.

  • Gwangan Beach drone show

The skies turned purple as a large-scale drone show took place at Gwangan beach right after the concert. The drones formed BTS's logo sign and images of each member.

Busan City is the second city this year to turn purple after Las Vegas transformed to 'Borahaegas' in April. Since Taehyung coined the term 'Borahae' on a whim in 2016, he gave the color purple a special meaning to BTS and ARMY. It has since become an integral part of the group's brand and image.

The impact of what Taehyung created is insane. The special meaning he gave to the color purple is iconic. Thank you Kim Taehyung for Borahae, I purple you, giving a name for the special relationship between BTS and ARMY. The world knows of this and it will forever be synonymous with you and BTS. Borahae Kim Taehyung.
