Five large golden Emmy trophies were gathered in one place, and another one is expected to arrive in South Korea soon.

On September 16, one day before the one-year anniversary of the release of the Netflix series 'Squid Game,' the winners of the Emmy trophies gathered at the Westin Chosun Seoul Hotel in Sogong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. A press conference was held to commemorate the six award winnings, including Best Director and Best Actor at the Emmy Awards, the most prestigious awards in the American broadcasting industry.

Director Hwang Dong Hyuk, who became the first non-English-speaking drama director to win the Best Director Award, could not hide his joy as he lifted the trophy. He said, "Tomorrow marks one year since 'Squid Game' was released, and I'm happy to be with many trophies and the award-winning staff at a meaningful event." Kim Ji Yeon, CEO of Siren Pictures, the production company behind 'Squid Game,' said, “It was a difficult, surprising, happy, rollercoaster-like year to get to this good place today. I am happy and thankful that it ended well.” Art director Chae Kyung Sun, who won the Production Design Award, said, "While filming, I talked with CEO Kim Ji Yeon and we said 'Let's make this well and win an Emmy Award' and it actually came true so I am very moved."

During the press conference on this day, director Hwang also revealed more details about season 2. Director Hwang said during the acceptance speech, "I hope this isn't my last Emmy Award trophy. I will come back with season 2.” With his statement,  fans worldwide are more curious about when and how Season 2 will be released. Regarding this, director Hwang said, "I'm in the middle of writing the script for season 2 right now. I think it will be filmed next year (2023) and come out the year after (2024)." He added, "When I think about writing the script and filming, my whole body aches to the point even my teeth hurt." Director Hwang had previously explained that he had lost six teeth due to the immense stress from filming 'Squid Game.'

Director Hwang explained on this day that he had originally planned to film the second season after making a movie first. However, he shared that he had decided to put the movie on hold and film 'Squid Game' season 2 first. He elaborated, "Originally, I was going to do a movie and then do season 2 of 'Squid Game,' but I decided to do season 2 first. I felt that if there is too much gap (between season 1 and season 2), Lee Jung Jae and other actors will grow too old," making everyone laugh.

When asked if there is a possibility that actress Lee Yoo Mi, who was present at the event and won an Emmy Award for 'Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series,' will appear in Season 2, the director answered, "I want to save Ji Young (Lee Yoo Mi's character), but Sae Byeok (Jung Ho Yeon's character), whom she was close with, also died, so I'm worried. All the actors loved by the viewers died. I'm sorry that I killed everyone without knowing this (season 2) would happen. I will think about it."

He can use them in flashbacks but I think it's better if he used new characters. There are so many other stories to be explored with new people.

The only thing I am disappointed about is that Wi hajoon wasn't with the cast through all of the awards and interviews that came with the success of the show. He was a very important character in the show and I hope he returns for season 2 and gains more attention.
