MBC slams SBS after SBS abruptly schedules a drama series starring the same actress as an MBC series in an upcoming time slot

MBC has spoken up with severe criticism toward SBS after the latter abruptly announced several scheduling changes for its upcoming drama series.

Earlier this week, SBS abruptly announced that the drama series 'From Today, We Are...' (working title) would be taking over the Mon-Tues evening drama time slot beginning in May, after the end of 'Business Proposal'. 'From Today, We Are...' is a Korean remake of the popular American series 'Jane the Virgin', and stars Lim Soo Hyang, Sung Hoon, and more.

However, the issue here is that an MBC drama series titled 'Doctor Lawyer', starring So Ji Sub, Lim Soo Hyang, and Shin Sung Rok, is also scheduled to begin airing soon as a Fri-Sat series, premiering on May 27. As a result, it seems that actress Lim Soo Hyang will be appearing in an SBS series on Mondays and Tuesdays, and in an MBC series on Fridays and Saturdays.

Originally, drama 'Again My Life' starring Lee Jun Ki was scheduled to begin airing on Mondays and Tuesdays after 'Business Proposal'. Another drama titled 'The Police Station Next To The Fire Station' starring Son Ho Joon, Kim Rae Won, and more was expected to take over the Fri-Sat time slot after the currently airing series, 'Through The Darkness'. But during the production of 'The Police Station', a PD passed away, and police have begun investigations toward the cause, bringing all production to a temporary halt. Thus, in order to make up for the delay, SBS has decided to move 'Again My Life' to the Fri-Sat time slot. 'From Today, We Are...', originally scheduled to air via a streaming platform, was suddenly moved to SBS's Mon-Tues time slot instead.

MBC responded to the above changes with severe criticism, by stating, "Ever since the initial development stages, 'Doctor Lawyer' was scheduled to air in the Fri-Sat time slot beginning in May. While it is unfortunate that such scheduling issues arose due to unavoidable circumstances, it is still ill-mannered to schedule a series with the same actress as another series from a competing broadcasting station in the same time frame."

MBC continued, "Furthermore, due to delays in the scheduling of 'From Today, We Are...', production for 'Doctor Lawyer' also suffered various scheduling issues (because Lim Soo Hyang was working on both series at once). Still, MBC respectfully worked with Lim Soo Hyang since 'Doctor Lawyer' was a pre-filmed series. On the other hand, SBS did not attempt to communicate with MBC whatsoever and one-sidely came to such rash decisions."

If matters continue and actress Lim Soo Hyang is set to appear in an SBS drama and an MBC drama at the same time, the actress may have to carry out promotions for both series at once, also leading to potential conflicts.

Oh, I thought SBS had scheduled it in the same time slot. But it turns out to be far less dramatic than that. I don't see anything wrong with both airing at the same time (not time slot). I don't think people would choose one show over the other because of it or be like "I can only watch one Lim Soo Hyang show at a time!" Plus, SBS scheduling the show isn't an attempt at sabotaging MBC's drama. They certainly aren't trying to sabotage Lim Soo Hyang.
