Japanese Writer and Translator Aoko Matsuda Praises BTS’s Jimin on Harper's Bazaar for his ‘God-Level’ Talents

STAR CONTRIBUTOR

“Jimin. His beautiful high-pitched voice and his overwhelming dancing ability, which is based on his experience in modern dance, have been praised as ‘God-level’.”

Aoko Matsuda recently wrote for Harper’s Bazaar Japan and mentioned how she fell under BTS main dancer and lead vocalist Park Jimin’s spell.

On March 12, an article written in Japanese about “Determined to perform at the Grammy Awards! A Life-long obsession with BTS (Vol. 1)” (Translated) was published on Harper's Bazaar Japan’s website.

According to Aoko Matsuda, she first fell in love with BTS after she heard “Anpanman” on Spotify and she got surprised at how BTS performed the song with so much fun and coolness.

Aoko further declared that she fell in love with Jimin when she saw their performance of “DNA” where Jimin stood between Jungkook and Taehyung and sang “since the day the universe was born…”. Aoko instantly caught the “Jimin Disease” as she watched more videos.

She also came across of Jimin’s solo “I Need U" performance at MMA 2019, where according to Aoko, Jimin danced like a heavenly maiden.

Aoko also revealed how Jimin became her ultimate bias or what she described to be “the one that when I look back at the end of my life, I would remember as the best bias of my life."It was when she watched an episode of BTS’s own variety show, “Run BTS” where she saw Jimin, who couldn’t read Jhope’s mouth and said “Lachibolala” instead of “Carbonara”.

Aoko also has a unique way of describing Jimin. She said, “Jimin is more of a polyhedron than a kaleidoscope.”

A polyhedron is a three-dimensional shape with flat polygonal faces, straight edges and sharp corners or vertices. It is characterized by the number of faces, duality, vertex figures and volume. While, a kaleidoscope is an optical instrument with two or more reflecting surfaces titled to each other at an angle, so that one or more objects on one end of the mirrors are seen as regular symmetrical pattern when viewed from the other end, due to repeated reflection.

Aoko also said that she originally loved Sir Matthew Bourne’s version of “Swan Lake”, in which the prince and the swan do a pas de deux between men. Hence, when she saw the pas de deux between Jimin and Jungkook, she realized that her “likes” were connected. Aoko even thought that her heart was going to stop when Jimin started to dance solo during the “Black Swan” performance at BTS’s online concert MOTS ON:E.

Aoko Matsuda is a writer and translator. She was nominated for the Mishima Yukio Prize and the Noma Literary New Face Prize for her debut book Stackable in 2013. In 2019, her short story “The Woman Dies” was shortlisted for a Shirley Jackson Award. She also wrote the novel The Girl Who is Getting Married in 2016 and Where the Wild Ladies Are (translated by Polly Barton). She has translated work by Karen Russel, Amelia Gray and Carmen Maria Machado into Japanese.

Aoko is the newest addition to the long and still growing list of female celebrities from all over the world who has shown their affection for Jimin and to the many known professionals and experts who have praised Jimin for his immense and impressive talents.
