“When I see Jimin’s dance, I see him as an expressionist, so it’s not ordinary dance anymore, it’s a dance art.” Jimin is art!

On January 31, 2021, a Professional ballet dancer in the USA with Twitter username @hansomedancerk and Youtube channel “Yamakai TV” with more than 437,000 subscribers posted a video of him analyzing Jimin’s dance.

The ballet dancer began by analyzing Jimin’s solo the behind-the-scenes video of “Black Swan MV”. He can tell outright by looking at Jimin’s movements that he is in the field of classical dance and he is successful in making difficult movements look easy in order to take the audience into an unreal world. 

Jimin executed complex dance steps which are not easy even for people who are good at dancing or have athletic skills. When Jimin rolled into the floor while still dancing takes a lot of practice and only a professional dancer can do.

Next is Jimin’s Black Swan stage on Melon Music Awards 2020 with Jungkook. The ballet dancer emphasized that being lifted, just like in the case of Jimin in the said stage, isn’t easy for the one being lifted. It is important for the one being lifted to be strong in his core, glutes and chest.

Then, he went to Jimin’s solo I Need U stage during 2019 Melon Music Awards. He was impressed on how Jimin chose to dance with a soft fabric which is usually not going to be used by ballet dancers because soft fabrics are harder to use and could tangle and ruin the performance. It shows how much Jimin practiced for the performance to perfect it.

The dancer then explained that K-pop dance and ballet are usually incompatible. Ballet is about stillness while Kpop is about movements. However, Jimin has the both the stillness of ballet and the dynamics from the Kpop dance. Jimin is rare.

He also pointed at Jimin’s expression at the end of the dance which only idols can. He sees Jimin as one expressionist and what he shows is not just an ordinary dance but is an art of dance.

This is not the first time Jimin has been praised by experts and professional dancers. Jimin has caught the attention of many including Sir Matthew Bourne, the most popular and successful choreographer and director in the UK and the creator of the world’s longest running ballet production.
