The year 2009 was certainly a memorable year for Kpop for introducing iconic hits to us. It also introduced us to some of the most influential Kpop acts that we have here today. Groups like 2NE1, 4minute, and Afterschool who have had a great impact on us that we will always cherish.
Even though half of these groups sadly disbanded or is on a forever long hiatus, that doesn't mean we're going to forget about them as they will forever be in our memories.
Here are some Kpop Acts who will celebrate their 10th-anniversary in the second half of 2019.
f(x) Debut: September 2009
f(x) officially debuted with the release of their first digital single "La cha ta" back in September 2009 . They continued to release hits after hits such as "Nu abo, Lollipop, and Electric Shock." Their first debut studio album Pinocchio and their two extended play Nu Abo and Electric Shock produced three number-one singles on the Gaon Digital Chart. With the strong success of Electric Shock which earned a chance to perform at SXSW in the United States, making them the first K-pop act to do so. Their publicly praised second studio album Pink Tape which earned them another success, which was the only K-pop album to land Fuse's 41 best albums of 2013.
In 2014, they released their third studio album Red Light which would be the last comeback for them as five members, due to Sulli making the decision to leave the group and pursue acting. Their last comeback was in 2015 which was "4 Walls" which was a commercial hit for the group as four members.
Secret Debut: October 2009
2009 was definitely the year of hot debuts that will certainly leave an impact on us. Although Secret debut was lost in the midst of shadows of other well-talented acts at that time. It wasn't until in where the group had picked up a retro image and start adapting to it with their second release digital single "Magic" as did follow up track "Madonna" which peaked at No.1 on the Gaon charts and remains one their most well-known hits to this day. Secret was able to take home New artist Award at the 2010 Golden Disk Award.
in September 2016, it was announced that Maknae Sunhwa would not renew her contracts and focus more on acting. Although the group would promote with just three members, the group has yet promoted any since then. Their last song was in 2014, it was also announced on February 2018 that Hyosung and Jieun were leaving TS Entertainment.
Even though there is some unpleasant business going on between the members and the label. The members have remained close, Hyosung, Hana, and Jieun have since kept in touch with one another and even meet up earlier this year and reunite in a selfie.
October 2019 would mark 10 years since Secret debuted. But we would like to say thank you for all the memories you gave us secret and we will forever cherish.
Rainbow Debut: November 2009
Rainbow debuted with their first single "Gossip Girl" but they also drew attention as they shared the same company with fellow labelmate KARA who was popular at the time with their iconic hit "Mister'. But it wasn't until the following year when they released "A" they managed to gain attention for their showing of abs as apart of their choreography which was banned from broadcasting due to being "too sexually suggestive".
However, when the group promoted the song in Japan where they were allowed again to perform the dance, and referred to it as the "belly dance".
Over the course of their run, the group has introduced two sub-units which were Rainbow Blaxx and Rainbow Pixxie. Rainbow Blaxx was a little different and have a more sexy and mature theme while Rainbow Pixxie was innocent and Pure concept. The MV for Cha. Cha for Rainbow become one of the most viewed Kpop MV's when it was first released.
In 2016, that would the last time we heard of Rainbow since the members decided not to renew their contacts and parted ways which lead to disbandment. Even though the members have parted ways, they still remain close and they would often post up photos to celebrate their anniversaries together. They even meet up last year to celebrate their 9th anniversary together on V Live.
Highlight (Beast) Debut: October 2009
Beast first appeared in the Kpop scene when they released their first single "Bad girl" but that was unsuccessful. But that didn't stop them, their fanbase began to grow rapidly because fans were actually enjoying their presence on stage which even lead them to receive the award for Best Newcomer Award at the Seoul Music Awards alongside Afterschool and T-ara.
The group’s versatility in owning both the fierce and powerful dance songs while also being able to turn on the emotions with the heartfelt ballads proved just how much they were a force to be reckoned with. Their multitude of catchy songs which led them to top the charts as well as earn them multiple wins on Music shows. The following year, their title song "Fiction" would give them a chance to win Song of the Year at the 2011 KBS Music Festival. Beast has also won Artist of the Year at both the 2011 and 2011 Melon Music Awards, and even beat out Super Junior where they won Best Male dance group at the MAMA Award 2011.
In 2016, Cube Entertainment announced that Hyunseung would be departing, leaving them as five members. The group released their third studio album, "Highlight", the last under the name "Beast".
The group would then part ways with Cube and start off fresh by establishing their own label and renaming the group as "Highlight". Despite competing with this younger generation of idols, Highlight has proven that they still got it and released numerous hits.
On March 14th, 2019, following the infamous chatroom scandal, Junghyun announced his departure from the band.
