NEO CITY: The Origin Tour - San Jose Recap

AKP STAFF

Eager fans filled the City National Civic On May 9 and May 10 to welcome NCT 127 on their first North American tour, 'NEO CITY: The Origin.' NCT's lightsticks flashed throughout the venue, glowing green and red as fans anxiously waited for their favorite members to step onto the stage.

The eager fan's energy could hardly be contained, as evident by their passionate cheering. As soon as the members kicked off their show with “Cherry Bomb” fans jumped up and down, singing along with wide smiles.

Throughout the entire show, there was never a dull moment for fans. NCT 127 members provided a diverse musical experience for fans, performing powerful songs like "Cherry Bomb" and slow-tempo R&B songs like “Timeless.”

The first half of the show was dominated by explosive beats that had fans on their feet throughout each song. NCT 127 performed classics like “Limitless” and “Chain,” which were accompanied by the passionate voices of fans.

Towards the middle of the show, NCT 127’s vocalists captivated fans with their smooth vocals. In “No Longer,” Taeil, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, and Haechan delivered effortless harmonies that showcased the members’ unreal vocal abilities.

Johnny provided an effortless transition to the hit song “Regular,” with his captivating piano solo.

Dynamic rapper duo Taeyong and Johnny delivered yet another powerful performance of “Mad City.” Despite the fast pace of the song, both members were able to deliver every lyric clearly, making fans all the more excited.

While the speaking portion of the show was brief in order for the members to be able to perform a diverse set of songs, it flowed smoothly as English-speaking members Johnny and Mark facilitated the conversation with the fans.

Being able to perform in front of you guys like this is another feeling. It’s different from performing on TV. We get to share all of our songs with you,” said Mark.

Jungwoo, Yuta, and Haechan proceeded to show off their moves during the dance battle, which provided a fun and unique twist to the concert. Their expert choreography was precise, yet artistic. The members’ colorful 90s attire made everything even better.

During “Replay,” colorful confetti fell from the ceiling, adding to fans’ experience, but also making them realize that the concert was almost over. Despite the approaching end to the concert, fans energy only increased with NCT 127’s performances of the highly-energetic “Simon Says” and “Firetruck.”

Fans echoed, “NCT, NCT, NCT, NCT,” as the members disappeared off the stage. Following their chants, NCT members returned to the stage after the music video for “Highway to Heaven” dressed in flashy suits to give fans the performance they had all been waiting for. Deafening cheers reverberated throughout the venue — NCT had no trouble maintaining fans’ high energy with their performance of “Superhuman.”

NCT 127 previewed three songs from their upcoming EP 'We Are Human' in total — “Jet Lag,” “Highway to Human,” and “Superhuman.”

Before ending the show, NCT 127 took one last opportunity to connect with their fans. They not only talked about their new album and their experiences filming music videos, but also talked about their excursions in the Bay Area before they concluded the show with some encore songs.

“We’ll be back. Don’t worry.”

Nice to see them perform in the Bay Area. It’s often neglected because LA is a more popular spot. Not an NCt fan, but it would’ve been nice to go.
