Netizens are talking about Chanhyuk's recent activities as a marine serviceman.

According to the 1st Marine Division, a self-composed song written by the Akdong Musician member was selected by the committee as their official military song. Until March, the Marine Corps had held a contest to receive original entries to be chosen as the military song.

When asked why he voluntarily submitted his song, Chanhyuk answered that he "wanted to record everything he felt while [he] lived and served in the marines (as an officer)." For the lyrics of the song, which was titled as "Only Victory Will Brightly Illuminate Us", Chanhyuk wrote, "Away with fear, only victory will brightly illuminate us."

Netizens praised Chanhyuk for "simply being cool," and for breaking the prejudice of the people who thought of him as "looking too physically weak to be in the marines". In the top-voted comments section, the first comment also alluded to YG Entertainment; a netizen hoped for Chanhyuk "to leave the agency safely" after his official discharge in May 2019.

Furthermore, since the word "seung-ri" meant "victory" in Korean, a netizens in the third comment expressed how the title regrettably contained the former Big Bang member's name amid the ongoing controversy.

On the other hand, the song composed by Chanhyuk was reported to have been performed by a group of classical singers at the official military ceremony.
