The winners of the '2019 Korean Music Awards' have been revealed.
This year was the award ceremony's 16th annual event, and it was held at the Guro Arts Valley art theater on February 26. The 'KMA' awards both mainstream and underground music artists, and unlike other Korean awards ceremonies, the winners are decided by a panel of judges consisting of music critics, radio show producers, academics, and other industry professionals. BTS were the big winners at the event as they took home 3 awards including Musician of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Song. They are the first to win Musician of the Year in back to back years.

KMA focuses on 1) albums and songs more than the artists 2) musical achievement more than sales 3) aims to go beyond the barrier between mainstream and non-mainstream music. Totally a Grammy. Based on sales or not, BTS is dominating because they have both quality and quantity. For the record, KMA rarely nominates KPOP idols for daesangs. And the chances to win are even harder. BTS won the daesang, Musician of the Year in KMA last year which was the first for an idol group. And they won again this year. Fake love as song of the year….finally getting the well-deserved recognition by music critics without fan voting (it was no 10 on BB100 last year, for god sake). BTS got 9 awards in just 1 day, 3 of them are daesangs!
p/s- Also congratulations to armys. We got our first daesang for 2019 Vlive awards. The first and only fandom to achieve this!
