Pledis Entertainment denies rumors that PRISTIN member Xiyeon has terminated her contract

PRISTIN

On October 25, one exclusive report claimed that PRISTIN member Xiyeon has decided to terminate her contract with her label Pledis Entertainment

Shortly after the report, Pledis Entertainment stepped up to clarify, "The rumors of PRISTIN's Xiyeon terminating her contract are absolutely false. She is still very much a part of Pledis, and is practicing diligently"

It's unclear where the rumors started, as the PRISTIN member who is currently on hiatus is Kyla, not Xiyeon. Meanwhile, PRISTIN's latest promotions took place back in may of this year, with their first unit group PRISTIN V

I will say this, something is up with Pristin; I don't know whether it's because they are preparing to comeback or because of some other drama but they have been radio silent for a couple of months now with the exception of Rena who did a very short Vlive on her birthday.

Pledis get's a bad rap for not promoting their artists which is mostly a meme rather than a fact, lately they have put on a lot of staff going from about 50 last year to 90 today and quite a few were in multimedia positions and Pledis has really upped it's game when it comes to social media posts which any fan of Seventeen, NU'EST and yes even Fromis_9 and IZ*ONE can attest. (And yes I know the last two are under Off the Record but their trainers, managers, and the people handling their promotions are still Pledis.)

But Pristin suddenly went off the air, they were doing posts/video's on average of 2-3 a week like clockwork then at the end of July they just stopped until Rena's birthday vlive on the 19th this month, this is very strange considering every other group that's active hasn't had any drop off of activity, something is definitely up even if this particular rumour is false.

I think so! I remember that in a interview, or even couple of interview, Pristin stated that they were asked by the CEO whether they want to debut as 10 member gg or .. (i don't know how many) and after they debuted, they got bashed bcs Kyla 'not-so-idol' appearance. I mean, we the intl fans has no problem with her, we even encourage her to be the role image of anti body shaming and showing different body shape for idol. But the damned k-fans .. hhhh. Its important to have a great reputation in k-fans' eyes so the group could win their hearts. The fact that Kyla is still in the US and Pledis said nothing about it is making me sad and hopeless. Kyulkung is busy with her chinese's schedule too, i don't know anything but something is definitely up with them, my precious Pristin :((

Then maybe show support for Pristin, Pristin is on the Asia Artist Awards voting and out of 50 artists they are in the 48th place with only 6,933 votes. If people showed more interest in them then so would Pledis. But if you are only 2 up from the bottom even when people are voting it might show lack of interest. You can download the app to vote for them. This is a step for Pledis to see people care about them.

During the first round of voting for AAA Pristin was around 60th place and at the end they were 40th and climbing very fast then they changed how you vote to a mobile app for the second round and I don't understand why they did that, this app had dramas right from the get go if you read the reviews on the store about it but my problem with it was the things the app wanted access to on my phone which I naturally refused to let it access and because of that it refuses to let me vote until I change my mind which I wont do, so that it for my voting for Pristin sorry to say and if Pristin is second last I'd say the change to this "predatory app" is the problem not the fans.

Well, I have 6 years waiting for news about After School return, or disbandment, or anything, But... Is Pledis. I'm afraid Pristin is doomed to follow After School's fate.

Well for Nu'est it's different. Since Nu'est went on Produce 101 CJ E&M has been doing more for them. Nu'est is the only artists in Pledis that has CJ E&M/Stone Music Entertainment as their distributor. Since then Nu'est has appeared on more variety shows especially on Mnet and the CJ group's channels. Nu'est has also had more OSTs due to the CJ group. Also CJ E&M earlier this year admitted to trying to obtain 51% shares in Pledis. So right now maybe Pledis is preparing for what the CJ group is going to do. They also said that the two girls that were on Produce 48 might be in a debuting in a new girl group. That information came from one of the past After School members. What we don't know if it's a new Pledis girl group or a Produce series group. If it's Pledis it's possible they are making a cross section girl group like Orange Caramel. Seventeen is the one that gets a lot of attention from Pledis. But for Pledis it's whomever is making money. Now that Nu'est is making money they are getting attention. Pristin might need more attention since it's hard for girl groups in general to make money and grow their fandom. Hopefully since Pledis has finished training Fromis_9 and IZ*ONE they can focus more on their girls in Pledis and maybe hire staff that is more versed on how to promote girl groups for success.

Pledis needs to get their shit together. Many Pristin fans will move on to another group if they keep going radio silent for months. Ghosting without any explanation is no way to treat the fans.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to find out it's true in the near future. It's been over a year since their last comeback and still no word from them other than the sub unit. Judging by the photos of Kyla in the states, I don't think she's returning anytime soon either. I hope the members are doing fine, but rumors like this don't bode well for the group.

I swear Pledis, if you doom PRISTIN like you doomed After School, there will be hell to pay.

I 100% agree. It would be horrible for PRISTIN to disband with only 2 title tracks and 1 title track for PRISTIN V.

Pristin were one of the standout rookies from last year so it’s a shame that they are managed by a dumpster like Pledis :-( People seem to blame it on Kyla being on hiatus but she was never a ‘main’ member with little screen time and lines. Should have known better considering how they did Kahi, AS, Nu’est and Son Dam bi dirty

They should all leave and join JYP or SM. Most other agencies seem to really suck and managaing multiple artists, especially females

JYP or SM have their own problems promoting their female artists. F(x) was very popular but they haven't had a comeback since 2015 and they are under SM. SM has laws that were created because of how horrible they happened to have been. Red Velvet should be given more attention, but SM has so many artists to focus on. JYP only focuses their efforts on Twice and forgot their other girl groups. YG is also horrible. At least Pledis has an excuse for having problems and that is money, but if you are having problems promoting your groups in the big 3 it's because you just don't care.

Pledis is well known for doing bad at managing their groups. I don't wonder if they stay silent and hiatus news for "Pristin" for another 10 years. There are no news about "Afterschool, Kyla or any comeback of pristin. They did shit to N'uest but they manage to survive being popular due to "Produce 101"(Literally they send their debuted artist to a toture cell. Best example for being dis respective towards own artists, thou it's called a tactic.) Meanwhile SEVENTEEN working until their bones and joints rip without a proper rest. They do have pretty big number of members. I'm pretty sure if something went wrong with SVT pledis will neglect them too.

Sadly entertainment (K-pop) is also a business. When a product line profit is bad, producers try to terminate the product.

When things are going like this........I saw a promotion video of PLEDIS Global audition program. Meh.........WTF.

from the looks of it, Pledis tends to not like to do full group comebacks when there’s one or more members out on hiatus. Like with Nu’est they made them in to a subunit when Minhyun is with Wanna One. I think that is why they’ve been holding off on Pristin comeback and instead did a Pristin V subunit. Though honestly, it’s been over a year now since Kyla’s been on Hiatus, and it doesn’t look like she’s coming back any time soon, Pledis should just bite it and do a full group comeback. They’ve been known to be bad at properly promoting thier groups in the past, but they’ve honestly improved considerably over the years. Still, holding Pristin back now is starting to look a little bit like old Pledis again. I hope this recent silence from Pristin is because they’re busy preparing a new album or something spectacular

I don't think that is the case. Nu'est had full comebacks it was just the Pledis was terrible at managing Nu'est. They kept Nu'est out of Korea for so long that people thought Nu'est was disbanded when they were really just in Japan doing concerts and shows. Nu'est is also preparing for a full comeback when Minhyun returns. The difference is Nu'est is under CJ E&M as distributors for Nu'est since Produce 101. That is why Nu'est is more active the CJ group has been putting a lot into Nu'est including variety shows on their networks; OSTs on their dramas and other money put into them from the CJ group. Both Nu'est and Seventeen are also self-producing groups. Nu'est write their lyrics and one of them composes the songs. Seventeen write their lyrics; compose the songs; and create the choreography. One of the Nu'est members is also a vocal director. It's possible that Pledis doesn't have the power to create songs, since their rely heavily on those self-producing artists. Or they can be cheap and not want to pay people to create music for Pristin. But I also know Nu'est has been writing their own music for years and when they didn't Pledis was so cheap that Nu'est didn't even have a manager and had to take buses to their own events and Pledis NEVER updated Nu'est website since 2014. However, Nu'est fandom is also larger than Pristin's fandom and the LOVE fandom will complain directly to Pledis. I hope that the girls get more attention, but sometimes it has to come from the fans directly. Such as buying Pristin's albums; voting for them on award shows; and showing interest in the group. The more money they make the more Pledis would show support. Kpop is a business not a charity, so for the LOVEs they had to show their buying power and even then it took the CJ group to help with Nu'est.

Unfortunately for Kyla she still receives so much hate from the K-fans. Recently she was in an article with her friends in America having fun and the comment section was horrible. They commented on her appearance; called her names; and things of that nature. Kpop idols read some of the articles they are in; their friends read the articles; they read the comments. Considering most of the comments were negative about her appearance why would she ever want to return to Korea to be an idol. Of course they might be silent on her, if an article about her enjoying a day out was met with such horrible comments; who would even make a statement that could damage that child more. Any statement about her Pledis could make would probably face so much hate in the comments that it wouldn't be of any good to her.

they should address the rumours on whether she has left the group or not instead of stringing us along. i mean it’s pretty obvious tbh so i don’t know why they don don’t just say. the k-fans will be happier once they know for sure she has left anyway

If she were smart then she’d leave while she’s still underage because legally, Pledis would have to let her go. That being said, they could be preparing for a comeback or rebranding the group entirely which would explain why they’ve been so quiet on social media. It wouldn’t surprise me if Pledis disbanded Pristin and re-debuted them with Kaeun and Yunjin under a different name, Xiyeon would definitely be included since she’s one of Pledis’ golden children

Pledis doesn't have to do that at this point. Earlier this year CJ E&M confirmed that they were trying to take 51% ownership of Pledis. Which means that CJ E&M might already own the 50% of Pledis that was from their Japanese partner. CJ E&M and the CJ group (Stone Music Entertainment; Swing Entertainment; Mnet) has a lot of monetary power. They would be wise not to even open it up, since the CJ group wants their company. Pledis said that it was only for overseas promotions, but that isn't what the CJ group said. Since Produce 101; Pledis has worked closely with the CJ group. Training the idols coming from their survival shows. CJ E&M are also the distributors for Nu'est/Nu'est W and have been putting a lot of money into Nu'est. So it's possible that they are silent on the girls while they are going through the process with CJ E&M since there hasn't been any follow-up yet on the process.
