UP10TION started releasing their 'Photo Edition' albums last year, so it's fitting that this comeback features an all-new one, their '2018 Special Photo Edition.' This release features a bevy of photos and messages from the members. The boys are dressed in bright colors, perfect for a summer comeback.
"So Beautiful" is a lite, poppy offering perfect for summer. It sort of has a tropical house beat to it, which I was hoping was passé now. The song is catchy however, and contains a generous amount of rapping, which is what makes it so cool, at least in my estimation. It also has that fun vibe that I enjoy.
And of course, I prefer "All Night Long" to the title track, which has me reverting to type. I happen to like the echoey effects and little techno flourishes. There's also that beautiful synth pipe sound around the chorus. This song just seems more interesting than "So Beautiful." It's also less playful than the other tune, and that may be why I like it more.
They're both solid tunes, it just that I like one more than the other. But anyone who's followed my reviews knows this is not out of character (sorry, not sorry). UP10TION has a pretty good track record of quality stuff, and they've replicated that here. You've got some echoes of their previous releases on here, but it's still 100% fresh UP10TION. And for the fans, that's never a bad thing.
It's fitting that for a summer debut with bright colors, you'd have an MV to match.
They devoted about half the video to live action versions of their teaser photos, but it's still cute and playful. The rest of the video sees the boys walking around various spots in San Francisco. The cable cars are prominent in many shots. There are also nods to aegyo, like feeding each other or making a "V face."
Decked out in Day-Glo colors, holding umbrellas, hanging out on the streets or in stores, rocking banana-hued hoodies, the boys put their viewers through their paces. It was nothing amazing, but I thought the shots of the city lights at night were pretty. I don't mean to sound ungrateful -- they didn't have to give us an MV at all. But it was a bit predictable for all that.
It's a behind-the-scenes vid, with all the baggage that brings.
I give this one a gigantic "meh."
