On September 18, Chanhyuk attended the marines entrance ceremony in Pohang. The singer will be going through 7 weeks of training and then be placed in a base.
Through YG Entertainment, Chanhyuk shared a comment regarding his enlistment. He stated, "I don't think it's special of how I'm enlisting at the average age. I want to get away from music and work for a moment and experience a brand new environment. I'll return both more mentally and physically mature."

Chanhyuk is showered with compliments for choosing marines for his mandatory service and enlisting at 21 which is the average age of enlistment and not putting off the duty to the last minute as many male celebrities do.
He'll be getting discharged in 2019. Meanwhile, his sister and fellow Akdong Musician member Suhyun will be promoting solo and in units until his return.
