At the showcase for her new single "Loves Me, Loves Me Not", Hong Jin Young stated, "Dieting is a women's lifelong homework. I'm a carnivore. I really love meat but you have to go on a diet to live as a female celebrity."

She then shared why she decided to go on a severe diet, and said, "Recently, after a Lunar Year special broadcasted, I received a message on Instagram telling me to take care of my body. So I wrote on Instagram, 'I will go on a diet', and people wrote, 'Good thinking. The comments telling you you're pretty are all lies. Seriously, lose some weight'. I was so shocked."
Hong Jin Young continued, "I was hurt and I started to starve myself. I ate 1 banana and drank 1 milk for a day and ate some meat 2 days later because I was so hungry. I go on a diet like that and I'm trying hard. I'll be slimmer next week than this week. I'm only going to leave my bones."
