On October 12, Cube Entertainment addressed recent issues surrounding rookie boy group Pentagon's introductory phrase.

While Pentagon's introductory phrase, in which the boys shout "Pentastic! Hello, we are Pentagon!", was created during the group's pre-debut reality show 'Pentagon Maker' and voted on as the one desired by fans, it's been pointed out on online communities that the term "pentastic" is too similar to an official F.T. Island fan item called the "Pentastick". The "Pentastick" is an essential item for many Primadonna, who wave it around during F.T. Island performances.

Cube Entertainment stated about the issue, "While Pentagon's current introduction, which fans helped Pentagon create through Mnet's 'Pentagon maker', is a precious introduction which represents Pentagon, we have decided to change it to a more meaningful introduction by combining the number 10, which symbolizes Pentagon, with the word fantastic, to make (Tentastic). Please cheer on and support Pentagon, who will begin their official promotions through 'M! Countdown' this October 13."

It seems like the group was able to deal with the situation with a simple, minor change to their introduction without altering its meaning too much. Do you like Pentagon's new introduction?

TENTASTICthe idea is sooo meaningful but them having to change it sucks

Pfff! They shouldn't have changed it,  but Tentastic is good too,  I like it^.^

What the shit? This is dumb. They sound similar, but they otherwise have completely different etymologies, completely different contexts, and completely different usages. Dumb dumb dumb. I suppose similar sounding English words may be more significant to people that aren't native speakers, however.

It's more of an issue in Korean because they written the same

emily235 sgpri Thursday, October 13, 2016

But the people complaining should sort of realize that they come from English words, and that the English words are different. Unless they don't know the actual reason behind why those words are what they are, and are assuming that one group just stole the word directly from the other. But that'd be silly...

The issue started in Korea. And it's precisely because it's the same spelling in Korean that some fans are complaining. I don't think the complaining is about the stealing part haha. If you're in kpop fandom long enough you'll know how colors and slogans etc are more symbolic and held dearly to. I'm just glad everything turned out fine.

I know its not that close of similarity but I commend Pentagon for changing immediately after Primadonnas pointed it out, some other groups and companies should learn from that.

What happens when a member leaves? "Ninetastic" "Eightastic"?

nanuk mike2427 Thursday, October 13, 2016

"Penta" actually means 5, anyway. There are 10 members.

Dont be so pessimistic manXD

"by combining the number 10, which symbolize Pentagon"??? Err, isnt Pentagon a 5-sided figure? so how is the number 10, symbolizing Pentagon, isnt it the number 5 instead?

truebeliever1995 Winston Wednesday, October 12, 2016

because the pentagon has five sides & five corners

Winston truebeliever1995 Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Why not just name the group Decagon instead, for 10 sided figure. its strange to add the sides and corners and justify the 10 members, I wonder what explanation will Cube give if they add 1 more member or has 1 member left due to various reasons? thats the dilemma with naming groups with numbers in them,

Winston truebeliever1995 Wednesday, October 12, 2016

so many people has mistaken 4Minute as having 4 members instead of 5, due to the number 4 in the group name when they debut also. just like 4Men isnt 4 men, i think i am not the first one to think that Pentagon is a 5 member boy group, because of the word Penta, so I wonder which 5 boys are the "sides" and which 5 are the corners?

truebeliever1995 Winston Wednesday, October 12, 2016

that's a mystery my friend. Simply, lines and dots make a shape for me...

march21st Winston Thursday, October 13, 2016

a more accurate translation is "a combination of Pentagon's significant number '10' and 'Fantastic'"  and by Pentagon here they meant the group Pentagon not the polygon Pentagon. Also, the group is obviously not named Pentagon because of the number of members they have, but because the five sides represent the 5 requisites of an idol group: dance, rap & vocal, talent(variety), mind and teamwork- which CUBE believes the group has. I hope this makes it clear for you.

Tentastic? Would NCT fans will feel upset too later since it have same name with their member? Just kid :p

centen Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Eh, either way, not a big deal to me as a Primadonna, but Tentastic does roll off the tongue nicer than Pentastic anyway.

4NIAB2UTYHONEY Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Tentastic sounds ten times better imo.

angelvsdevil Wednesday, October 12, 2016

As a Primadonna, I actually want to thank pentagon for the change, since pentasticks are something only FTISLAND has. They are the only group that use flags as fan item. It's the same as using the same balloon color of someone else and CLAIM that it's not the same with a slight difference or something. So I'm glad that they reacted to this so fast. Pentagon, you gave me a great first impression. Will look forward to your future activities and hope the best for you guys^^
