[Drama Review] 'Lucky Romance' - Episode 4

LUCKY ROMANCE -- EPISODE 4

"I'll save you! I'm Emotionally-Constipated-Entrepreneur-Man!"

So we have a romance at last -- sort of. Bo Nui threatens to leave, taking the license to develop the game with her unless Soo Ho goes out with her. She tells him it's a matter of life and death. Of course, he incorrectly assumes it's her life on the line. So they bang out a contract to schedule their dates. Most of the time is spent with Soo Ho asking his colleagues and his conscience why she chose him. The other part is spent on the date, where all sorts of things go south. And afterward, she invites him to sleep with her...

And this reveals all sorts of things about Soo Ho -- that deep down, he's a good guy. He is eager to fulfill her "dying wish" by dating her, he brings meds to her, and he tries to defend her honor when he thinks Gary Choi is some random pervert. I'm glad they decided to humanize him because the callous, living computer shtick was wearing thin.

I've been carried like that to a few parties, but that's not where they're going...

I like how the second leads are having problems too, but I wish they were a bit more prominent. Right now, they *feel* like second leads, and that's bad for immersion. I'm not sure what more they can do because I like the characters. But the presentation is lukewarm, and I prefer things to sizzle!

I think the decision to sleep with Soo Ho was a bit overblown, placed there more to keep us coming back than anything that's going to move the plot forward. Even the drama presented it in a "I just met you, and this is crazy" light. True, she has said she'll do anything for her sister, and she could do a lot worse, but I don't see anything coming of it -- yet.

"Come on, you're supposed to play me folk songs while I eat."

This drama stumbled into rom-com land at last. I was waiting for that, because it's fun to ship characters and watch the awkward hilarity. And how awkward do you think work's going to get with that offer? Yeah, I think we all know. See you next week!
