Viewers are responding in disbelief to AOA Seolhyun and Jimin's supposed lack of historical knowledge.

On the recent airing of 'Channel AOA', the two members were asked to fill in names corresponding to portraits of various historical figures. The first line lists Lee Soon Shin, Shin Saimdang, Kim Gu, Ahn Joong Geun, and Abraham Lincoln. Out of five figures, Seolhyun and Jimin only managed to get Shin Saimdang and Kim Gu correct.

Seolhyun and Jimin were also searching their smartphones for the answers and continued to struggle even after the producer provided a hint. The two continued guessing by providing unrelated names, such as Kim Du Han. In the end, Seolhyun found the answers after minutes of research on her smartphone.

Viewers commented in shock, "Come on. They must be acting. How can you not know Ahn Joong Geun," "How can these kids represent Korea. Their agencies should teach them Korean history before they teach them other languages," "I admit that I'm stupid, but if you're Korean, you must know Ahn Joong Geun. This one is just too much. Please go study."

Do you think Seolhyun and Jimin need to hit the books? Maybe they knew the names, but not the faces? What are your thoughts?

That was posted a while ago but they are not worst than Justin Bieber who think that Europe is a country or many French "musicians" who don't know a damn thing about our history. And what's the matter they ask them to sing and be beautiful and I think they do it pretty well

Lotus_Girl Thursday, August 11, 2016

LooL not everyone are interested in their own historical, I don't know everything about my own country till I become forced too because of my studies, but seriously bushing them for not known who's ahn or who's Lee or whatever his/her name was? that the most dumb thing I ever heard ..

The real problem here is that Korea as a country is the fucking problem. The citizens are way too prideful of stupid things to the point of appointing people as the "national something" you hear too often in media. No other country, whether more advanced or less is as prideful as a Korean. In America, nobody would give a fuck if a celebrity doesn't know who Abraham Lincoln is, of course that rarely happens because he's on our currency but even if it does, nobody would care. All you ticking Korean crybabies just got to shut the fuck up and stop being sensitive bitches.

This is the most unimportant article I have ever read. 'Yay let's criticize someone for not knowing historical figures for no reason other than we can!'

ase Monday, May 23, 2016

the girl in the photo looks scary :Oit's equivalent to the chinese who dont know Mao zhe dong. for sure they will get condemned so ignorant.

kudo_aiko Monday, May 16, 2016

haneulaura rockinfootball Tuesday, May 24, 2016

lmao i'm australian and I also, don't know who the prime minister is

rockinfootball haneulaura Monday, May 30, 2016

so true, how many did we have in the past couple years again?

ygbad_boy Friday, May 13, 2016

wow... they're pretty dumb. Not to be mean but how can you not recognize your historical figures. Here in Mexico you at least know some of the "national heroes" like Miguel Hidalgo and Benito Juarez. We even know some American figures like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, so yeah... I get the criticism.

nowigen ygbad_boy Friday, May 13, 2016

I wouldn't say they're dumb. I think they're pretty smart girls. I guess the right word here is being inattentive or ignorant. Not dumb.

ygbad_boy nowigen Friday, May 13, 2016

dumb /dəm/ adj. NORTH AMERICANinformal stupid. "a dumb question" synonyms: stupid, unintelligent, IGNORANT, dense, brainless, mindless, foolish, slow, dull, simple, empty-headed, stunned, vacuous, vapid, idiotic, half-baked, imbecilic, bovine et al

nowigen ygbad_boy Sunday, May 15, 2016

learn the difference between ignorance and stupidity, they're different

ygbad_boy nowigen Sunday, May 15, 2016

I just posted what according to an American dictionary the world I used as an adjective to described their ignorance in a more colloquial term. THe synonims include IGNORANT, FOOLISH, DULL, SIMPLE as in the way it's intended to be used again in colloquial or simple terms. If you get butthurt cause she made a mistake and people calling her on it (who let's be honest is kinda justified, giving the whole issues S. Korea has with several countries) not my problem. I like Jimin and AOA but to be this empty head and not knowing a big national hero from your own country does earn you the title of dumb.

thrillaaaa ygbad_boy Monday, May 16, 2016

yea keep calling them dumb YG_badboy... but a Histroy teacher actually backed them up and said they are not dumb.

ygbad_boy thrillaaaa Monday, May 16, 2016

yeah, that doesn't take away the fact that they don't know their history. So, the ignorant/dumb/clueless/foolish argument still remains. It's like me, I don't know much of math but I mean I know how to make a simple math problem, if I couldn't the label of dumb would fit perfectly. No matter if a math teacher came out in my defense, the fact that I couldn't answer a simple problem, would still be there. Now, you get it?

Jae_Sang_Shin ygbad_boy Thursday, July 7, 2016

Well, K-Pop stars are do start training when they are very young. Not only do they have to focus on school but now singing, dancing, and other languages. Therefor, they have a lot of things to have to remember. Before you call them "dumb" maybe you should see how hard there life is first.

Jae_Sang_Shin Thursday, July 7, 2016

are do? wtf oops take out are

ygbad_boy Jae_Sang_Shin Thursday, July 7, 2016

I didn't say it ain't hard. But for example some Kpop rappers in their songs use political/historical figures or dates in their lyrics. Which mean that they did have an education like almost every normal child. Also, someone said that the guy they couldn't recognize was like a George Wahington/Abraham Lincoln kinda of in popularity status in Korea... so... yeah, maybe the word dumb might be harsh but is the only word I can't come up with since ignorant covers the fact that they were unaware of their situation which they were certaintly not unaware of.

misskkot Thursday, May 12, 2016

well, i only know lee soon shin and abraham lincoln. i know lee soon shin from korean historical drama XD who is ahn joong geun exactly?

take_it_easy misskkot Tuesday, May 17, 2016

if you watch 1N2D S3 you will know who is it,

icefire89 Thursday, May 12, 2016

I don't blame them at all. I mean, "American" history spans like 3 or 4 centuries?... and all you really study are the presidents, wars, 18th century imperialism, the big/important legislation that was passed, civil rights, etc. For Korea(ns), they have hundreds of kings, queens, princes, princesses, multiple dynasties and small kingdoms, wars, battles, famous military commanders and politicians, renowned Buddhists/Confucians, the various interaction with China, Japan, etc., and probably more that I haven't covered. Korea has a rich culture and history that goes back centuries, millennia even!, so I don't blame those girls. Especially if they're not big into history. is important to know enough of history to understand what happened and how and why. Jeez, I mean there are still people who say the Holocaust wasn't real and Southerners who still gripe that the Confederates lost the Civil War.

jiminangrybutt icefire89 Thursday, May 12, 2016

Sorry dude, but I was born and raised in the south and really I've never met a southerner "Who still gripe that the Confederates lost the Civil War". Also, high schoolers is required to learn either AP human geography or world geography freshman year, AP or normal world history or AP european history sophomore year, AP or normal US or AP european history junior year, and there are plenty of other options senior year. I think people that live in the United States really don't just "study are the presidents, wars, 18th century imperialism, the big/important legislation that was passed, civil rights, etc".

Unicornsarereal icefire89 Saturday, May 14, 2016

Dude, the person they didn't know is equivalent to MLK in America. It's like someone didn't know how MLK look like and then someone hints someone that is related to MLK's Story and they name another random ass person in a slur that white racists use. That's the american equivalent that happened here.

icefire89 jiminangrybutt Saturday, May 14, 2016

I don't know the public school system since I went to a stupid private school, but we we had to rigorously study American history and I'm not sure what you're trying to say with that list you gave me. And seriously? Why do you think there are so many southerners who still proudly fly Confederate flag? Or have the Stars & Bars as a sticker, belt buckle, etc? Or god forbid, the civil war re-enactors who for the most part are southerners who wish the South won the Civil War. Or have you forgotten the latest controversy on the Confederate flag flying in a public setting in the SOUTH? For a "born and raised in the south," you certainly reinforce the belief that southerners are dumb hicks.
