Being YoonA's first solo song as well as her first release under SM Entertainment's 'Station,' the song lures the listener into a beautiful tale of having a sweet romantic date during the first fresh spring day. For those who don't know about "Deoksugung Stonewall Walkway," the song derives from a myth that says any couple who travels down the walkway together will end up breaking up! However, this sweet couple knows their love will last forever and there is no time like the present. Check out the MV below and get lost in the romance!
When it comes to "Deoksugung Stonewall Walkway" sound and style, it is definitely gentle on the ears. The angelic humming in the background accompanied by the subtle guitar strums make it undeniably calming. The instrumental has a hidden charm that may almost go unnoticed by the sweet honey vocals of 10cm and YoonA. The almost whispery synthesized tones and shimmering sound effects give it a heavenly feeling and really captivates your senses as it complements the artist's musical style.
The lyrics offer something bright and cheerful and can still easily sway your romantic side without coming across as 'too cheesy.' Anyone can enjoy the repetitive of, "My girl, my girl, my girl," and, "My love, my love, my love."
What adds a little quirkiness to this song is the way it carries out a conversation similar to EXO's Xiumin's and AOA's Jimin's "Call You Bae." The way they chatter about the day being beautiful and perfect for any couple in love makes you want to grab your boy/girlfriend (or bestie, for those single ladies out there) and take a nice sunny day trip anywhere~
The MV took on a real charming concept of filming it through your eyes as you walk alongside YoonA, enjoying your date with her and taking pictures of her enjoying her time on this beautiful path. The MV really absorbs the viewer into that heart fluttering feeling YoonA and 10cm constantly reference.
Everyone can admit that pastel colors and Instagram filters easily win us over and this MV molds the best of both worlds! The light, cloudy tinted effect, flashes of the infamous Deoksugung path in Korea, and baby pink colors really stir up a good feeling of wanderlust inside-- not to mention how delicate and cheerful YoonA looks in every clip!
Overall, the song can easily dominate the charts. To be frank, the song seems to be carried more by 10cm's familiar vocals but it isn't to say YoonA isn't a great addition to the song. It makes for a good start for YoonA's solo concepts. Although fans are loving the more fun-spirited and energetic releases of various groups these days, many are waiting for that new duet that will turn them into zombies pressing the replay button! Spring is the time of ballads and YoonA has taken the first step of starting the tidal wave of duets to follow.
