Grandmothers generously donate their earnings from selling soybean paste and soy sauce

Buzz

It has been revealed on May 12 that 25 sweet grandmothers from their 60's to 80's at Uiryeong County, Gyeongnam had donated the money they earned from selling their personally made soybean paste and soy sauce to the local elementary school back on Parents' Day on May 8!

They, under the Uiryeong Grandmothers' Volunteer Service, donated an impressive amount of 15 million KRW (~ 14,000 USD).  This volunteer group had existed since 1993, earning money by selling their yummy soybean paste and soy sauce and putting away the profit into a bank.  Every year, they would give money as scholarships to the students.

However, as the grandmothers aged and it got too hard to volunteer their services, they decided to do meaningful work through the principal sum.  While they were doing that, they heard that the school's wind orchestra might disband due to lack of funding, so the grandmothers got together to talk and then decided to donate the money from their bank.

Lee Nam Sun (87), who is head of the group, stated, "It's not that much, but the students of the wind orchestra are maturing into amazing talents and musicians, so we hope it would be of some help."

In return, the wind orchestra went around, putting carnations on the grandmothers' chest and performing trot songs to say thanks!
