Super Junior's Eunhyuk and Leeteuk insisted that Shin Dong Yup is SM Entertainment's maknae because he had signed the most recently.
On SBS' 'Strong Heart', actor Kim Ji Hoon titled his topic: "I know SM's past". Eunhyuk responded, "This is something our maknae Dong Yup hyung should pay attention to." Shin Dong Yup was one of the many big names to join SM C&C, including Kang Ho Dong, Lee Soo Geun, Jang Dong Gun, and Kim Ha Neul.
However, Shin Dong Yup denied the status and revealed, "Actually, I am one of SM's original members. I was there with H.O.T when they first debuted." His attempt at climbing up the status ladder was denied by Leeteuk, who joked, "If you leave and come back, that doesn't count. You start again when you sign the contract."
