Known for his films "Old Boy," "Sympathy for LadyVengeance," and "Thirst", director Park Chan Wook has teamed up with his brotherPark Chan Gyung to direct a new movie, filmed 100% through the iPhone4. Titled "Turbulent (Paranmanjang)", the film stars singer/actress Lee Jung Hyun and actor Oh Gwang Rok. Everything from night to underwater scenes were filmed through the smartphone's lenses. Thanks to theaccessibilityof the iPhone, footage was filmed not only by the directors, but also by the staff on set. While the screen does shakes a bit and the feeling is sometimes harsh, it fits well with the film's concept, which tries to depict a story in the afterlife. Lee Jung Hyun said, "I was very surprised because I assumed that the movie would be shot with professional cameras. The resolution is so similar to that of film's." This use of a common tech gadget opens the doorway for more extraordinary andimaginativeworks. A new generation of filmmakers may be on the rise, as this movie has proven that it's possible for anyone to use their own smartphones to create their own high-quality films.
