Person A, who first started actress Lee Si Young's sex tape rumors, and reporter B, who wrote an article based on false information, are facing penalties.

Back in June of 2015, Lee Si Young was accused of being the woman in a sex tape that roamed the web. However, a month later it was proven that it was not the actress in the sex tape, and Lee Si Young stepped up to take legal action against the malicious rumors.

The investigation, which started in October of 2015, came to a close a year later. The final ruling gave person A 6-months of penal servitude, a 1-year probation, and 200 hours of community service. Reporter B faces 1-year of penal servitude, a 2-year probation, and 200 hours of community service.

4 others have been fined with 3,000,000 KRW (~$2651) for taking part in spreading the rumors.

I still can't help but wonder if people really need to be punished by the law for spreading rumors.

touche. I guess it's just because we don't often go after people for libel in America unless it becomes a major issue. But seeing all of these Korean celebs and agencies go after people who spread rumors makes me wonder if they need to be so vigilant about it.

they don't really go for everyone, only for the ones that caused damages (like this one) but if they announce it like they do it scares the people off and that's how agencies do damage control. For example: the journalists who wrote all the jung joonyoung thing about not taking the phone to the police or saying that he had done what he had done even when everything was solved in both sides, can be sued for libel because they not only damaged jjy but the ex-girlfriend

This is a good example of how actors and their agencies should handle cyberbully and rumours.
