Weekly Recap: YG's New Boy Group, MBLAQ criticism, and more

Lizzy, Sulli, MBLAQ

You know it's official when Google works off their special daily doodle with the Summer Solstice - Happy first day of summer, guys!

Gone are the horrid memoriesof eight-hour school days and stuffy classrooms and here are the lazy summer days brimming with ignorant bliss.Unless, of course, you're spending the summer prepping for SAT's, ACT's or TOEFL. In that case, my sincerest condolences.

Anyways, for those of you who might've had a busy week with finals or whatnot, here are a few of the headlines that caught my eye this week.

Comedian Lim Joon Hyuk criticizes MBLAQ for their lack of cooperation and 'superstar' attitude

The boys of MBLAQran into a bit of controversy this week when comedian Lim Joon Hyuk's SNS post picked up increasing momentum across the web. Lim Joon Hyuk, who is a member of the comedian team of 'People Seeking Laughs - Rising Star' mentioned in his post,"Today's recording was the most difficult since the start of 'Rising Star.' ...We won't do this, no we can't do that - [MBLAQ] was saying that even up until filming began, and I don't know if they didn't hear us wanting to do a test run before the filming or if they heard it but just forgot about it..."

In response, MBLAQ's label, J. Tune Camp, has remarked that the boys "worked hard as they would on music programs. I think there must have been some misunderstanding... There was no specific program during the recording and the recording went well... We are just regretful that something like this has been brought up."

My Take: Woah. Honestly, I don't think it was very professional of Lim Joon Hyuk to call MBLAQ out via social media. What are we? 13-year-old teenage girls having passive aggressive Twitter wars? The entertainment industry, though it seems endless, is actually a lot smaller than it appears. And in that respect, you have to adhere to social etiquette and keep your maturity both on and off the stage. It also bothers me how in this situation, Lim Joon Hyuk is the veteran entertainer to the boys of MBLAQ. As such, I feel that Lim Joon Hyuk should have acted more like a mentor to them - if he felt that they weren't working as hard as they should have been, why not tell them what they were doing wrong in person?

The situation could have been avoided entirely had it been handled less hastily.

Yang Hyun Suk announces 2 new boy groups in the making + their survival competition program 'WIN'

It's the king of troll himself waving his magical wand across the fabled land of K-pop. YGE debuting two new boy groups. But since debuting new groups is just so mainstream these days, the father of YG took it upon himself to determine which group will debut first through a survival competition program, 'WIN'.

Hunger Games, anyone?

It's interesting that YG is pitting the two groups, referred to the Korean media's favorite letters: 'A' and 'B,' against each other to see which one comes out on top. But imagine how frustrating it must be for the boys - all the skills they've been taught in those years spent training are now dangling in front of their eyes. I mean, that's not stressful or anything...

Nevertheless, it calms my nerves knowing that YG will definitely be debuting the two groups, and that it's now only a matter of who goes first.

Lizzy claims she's the best at finding people's nipples? & Which animal scares f(x)'s Sulli?

Guys, I'm putting my guards down for this - I think I've found a kindred spirit in these girls. Apparently, Lizzy's been hiding a special talent from us. But luckily, it was recently revealed that she specializes in locating nipples on the human body. But she's one level up in the sense that she can sense where the nipples are and point directly to them even when the person has a shirt on. Extraordinary. This is an exceptional sense that cannot be taught. One doesn't simply go out and learn how to do these things. No. One can only hope to be gifted with such enviable prowess. Good for you, Lizzy.

As for Sulli's inordinate fear of birds, I swear our souls are of the same kind. There's nothing in the world that scares me more than birds. Ask me to run through a fiery circus ring - I'll do it. Ask me to wrap snakes around my neck - I'll do it, gladly. But ask me to hold a baby chick in my hand - I will actually have a full blown nervous attack and have to be escorted out by emergency medical assistance (If I'm lucky).

But let me justify myself - when I was seven years old, my parents were teaching me how to ride a two-wheeled bicycle. Fatefully, the park where we were riding the bike happened to have a nastypond right next to the bike route. Keep in mind I was only seven. So as I'm riding by myself, something felt uneasy and I couldn't help but swerve the handles jerkily. Lo and behold, the next thing I know, I'm spitting pond water out of my mouth and having geese flapping their wings at my face. And in that moment, while I was sitting there with geese and their dropping floating around me, I knew I wouldn't be the same again. I had lost a part of myself, and I wouldn't be able to get it back.So it's always nice to know someone else who shares the burden of these grotesque creatures.

That's it for this week!
