The reason for lack of idol couples
With the trend of couples in the Korean entertainment business making public their relationship a common occurence nowadays, why aren’t there any idol couples among them?
Just like what former g.o.d. member Danny Ahn said on Strong Heart before, many idols do date their same-age counterparts but they often do it in secret and even so, it’s hard to get acknowledged.
The biggest reason is ultimately lies with the idols’ management agencies. Some of them keep tabs on their artists by taking away their mobile phones while they are doing promotions or just grouping them together in a dorm.
If scandals between idol members get spread around, it might lead to tragic occurrences among their fans and cause problems to the members themselves. Babyvox’s Kan Mi Yeon was reportedly rumoured to be dating H.O.T’s Moon Hee Jun in 1999 which led to the latter’s fans sending threatening letters and shaving blades with blood to her. This was reported to the police but nothing came out of it.

With the target group of their fans being young girls especially for male idols, they either do not date anyone or choose to keep it really secret and it’s standard practice.
A related source said, “That’s why compared with actors, the dating period between idol singers are relatively short and they break up fast.”
KARA’s manager explained, “Even though many idol singers get paired up as a couple during variety shows, it’s hard to go beyond that and go into a real relationship. Even if they do date, it will end pretty quickly because they are unable to face the eventual consequences or their companies stepping in to break them up.”

oh~that’s so sad… and so unfair!
woah thats harsh i guess to be official sign up for wgm were u dont have to hide and everyone thinks ur cute
that’S so sad for them. i mean idols should be allowed to love as well…. they shouldn’t have to wait until they stop appearing on screen to be able to date….as for me i’d love seeing some idol couples around!<3
hmm…what a pitty…for a really match couple, that would be sad knowing the truth that the realtionship can’t last for long…
I think that even though the fans are ridiculously fanatical about their stars I can’t blame them entirely – companies force stars to have this completely desirable image from their songs to their singing style and actually support and promote this sort of behaviour from fans. Stars too, are not so innocent. Remember – they’re the ones who chose this lifestyle. They sold their minds, souls, bodies and rights to their companies just to become famous singers. With emphasis on the famous. They are instructed by their companies to say things that would cement their images of desirable, available people who only want you, the fan.
Companies want money; fans want love; stars want fame. Everybody gets what they want if they stick to the rules. Personally I think they’re all wrong. Companies, fans and stars.
gosh that’s sad… and harsh…
Well, I already knew about this explanation I guess but the bigger issue is the fans. Companies do this because they want their idols to focus on their music but also because of fans. It’s really sad because if you’re a true fan, you should want your idol to be happy. Honestly, what are the chances of a fan getting with an idol? (It can happen, but it’s not very likely. Not to mention, if you’re a the crazy-obsessive type, it’s pretty much impossible.) You should want your idol to be able to experience dating, even if you feel some jealousy. = D =
and also, since when did idols belong to their fans? :/ sigh. i feel bad for them!
Wow, that’s though! I never knew how hard it was for stars to date. The fans need to back off and let the stars have a life.
man, that must be so tough. i mean, music is they’re passion and what they’ve been working towards their whole life, but to be restricted of human emotions like that, really sucks. Must be really tough on them. We, as fans, should have a more open mind towards them.
Idols 화이팅~!
:’( That’s really sad… That they can’t have a normal love life… I feel really sorry for them :(
woah. that’s just too much. Idols are humans with feelings too you know.. they want to love and be loved too.
Korean fans are the scariest!
to make it easy; fans are batshit maniac
WooooW fans these days r really messed up in the head…..
i feel so bad for them to not be able to go out with anyone, i mean everyone wants to experience love in their life including idols…. well i just hope one day they will be able to find sumeon they love=)
Sad :o
They’ve to give up their love-life for their work and loyalty~
it’s very sad that they can’t have a real life
thats sad. theyre people too. crazy fan girls need a life.
Oh, and just for the record, The Adam couple should just go out… if they aren’t already. Taeyeon and whoever that one guy she mentioned she liked from Strong Heart should just also go out :(.
i dont understand those possessive fans.. .
i want to see my favorite idols out there having fun and getting some action!!
why wouldn’t you want to see your favorite people happy ?
*sigh* why can’t people just be happy? I mean, they’re called idols right? So if they were to have a good relationship with someone they like then shouldn’t people just look up to that too instead of destroying it? Honestly, these people need to get a life. I personally want so many of these idols to date each other and sometimes I think a lot of them are dating each other… and I personally don’t care. If they’re happy, the better the music, the better the work ethic and the better the persona they show us. Idols should live their lives too. But sometimes I think that with all the crazy blood letters and stuff… it’s right, they should honestly just date in secret. But I just feel so bad for them, since they’re people too :(.
It’s like being an idol is like signing your life away to the devil or something. D:
It’s a real shame how some fans get so worked up about these idols being in relationships. I understand they’re famous, they have adoring fans. But there’s adoring someone, and there’s overstepping boundaries of being a fan… It’s sad that these idols can’t even date like normal people anymore. I don’t think they should have to wait until they’re totally off-radar to be able to have normal, healthy relationships.
yeah this is the reality, and some of the fans prefer their male idol date the same gender rather that dating a girl “???”
I don’t get why people don’t leave them alone. Seriously I’m a fan of many male celebrities and would love to be with any one of them. But seriouslyy, not to ruin anyone’s dreams or anything but, what are the chances? Fans should just let them date whoever they want and not make a big problem out of it. If you’re a real fan, you would want that celebrity to be happy and not be alone until like 40 when they’re less popular and can date and get married.
that’s so sad…idols are human too, they should be able to date without it being so secretive!
nyway… i think yoona n taecyeon sld date….
One of the most important things fans need to realize is that their beloved idols also have their own personal lives. Whether or not fans agree with whoever the idol is dating (or simply dating at all) is not the point. I definitely believe that it is the idol’s right to keep their relationships underground just for the sake of protecting their significant other. Jealous and possessive fans exist in every country, but I feel they are more prominent in Asia. For example, for those of you who follow the Hong Kong Entertainment industry, Andy Lau kept his marriage hidden for years. People gave him a lot of crap after it was revealed, but I think it is totally understandable. He has his fair share of obsessive fans and I think that his decision was to protect his wife. Best of luck to these idols because I sympathize with them as many of them are the same age as me.
