'I'm angry at myself for forgiving my dad', HA:TFELT tears up as she talks about her father

On the March 11 KST broadcast of 'Oh Eun Young's Golden Counseling', singer HA:TFELT made a guest appearance to consult Dr. Oh Eun Young about her concerns.

HA:TFELT, formerly known as Yeeun of Wonder Girls, opened up about her father, who is currently serving time in prison for fraud. HA:TFELT stated, "I live my life thinking that a father in my life does not exist. There are some people around me who tell me that I should forgive my father, but I think there are certain things in the world that you should not be forgiven for."

HA:TFELT then revealed her parents had divorced when she was just 6 years old due to her father's affair. Following this incident, she lost contact with her father and did not see him until her sister's wedding day. After having a conversation with her father, HA:TFELT began to open up to him after finding out about and sympathizing with his dark family history that had remained as a wound in his heart. However, after she opened up her heart to her father with much difficulty, she was met with betrayal and hurt after he used her name to scam many members of his church out of 20 billion won (~$16,166,776 USD).

HA:TFELT further revealed that although she had been found innocent from the scam and did not have to go to court, she soon received a letter from her father asking her for money to bail him out of prison. HA:TFELT teared up as she said, "I became angry at myself for forgiving my father." In response, Dr. Oh Eun Young stated, "There are three reasons why people usually forgive others. A deep wound in their heart heals, they can leave behind the fear felt toward the person, and they can let go of the overwhelming feelings in their heart and be freed from the resulting physical pain."

I can't imagine the pain she's had to go through - no child should ever be responsible for their parents' crimes.

I know Ye-eun's pain, although for me, my abusive parent is my mother. Manipulative, unstable... My childhood was a nightmare thanks to her, and that's why I haven't spoken to her in years. I feel Ye-eun's frustration when she talks about people telling her to forgive her dad. Folks really need to mind their own business when it comes to family affairs because they never know the full story. Still, I'd like to forgive my mother just to close the chapter of pain, although I still think for safety reasons, sometimes it's just better to cut ties and move on with your life, even if it means having to cut off a parent.
