Actress Seo Woo opened up about the personal struggles she experienced after stepping away from the entertainment industry, revealing that many of her relationships faded along with her career.
On January 15, Seo Woo appeared on the YouTube channel SoonCheolssi, run by hairstylist Lee Soon Cheol, where she shared stories she had not been able to talk about until now, including why she left the industry for a period of time.
Looking back on her pre-debut days, Seo Woo recalled, “The head of an agency once asked for my contact information, but I didn’t end up joining that company. Somehow, I got the chance to do a small role in a film, and that’s how my acting career began,” candidly explaining how she first entered the field.
She also spoke about her unique stage name, Seo Woo. “I’m short, and I felt like I didn’t have a strong impact,” she said. “So I wanted a name that felt more masculine and gender neutral, and I came up with it myself.” She expressed affection for the name, which she chose personally.
Seo Woo then confessed that after halting her activities, most of her connections in the entertainment world disappeared. “Everyone drifted away. I hardly have any contacts left now. The people I was close to when I was active, the ones who were good to me, they all disappeared,” she said. “I stopped working in that field, didn’t I? I even wondered, ‘Did some people only like the old version of me?’ I thought, ‘Is this how they treat me because I’m no longer in the industry?’ Situations like that happened all the time. It wasn’t something I could just brush off with, ‘That’s just how it is.’” She admitted that the experiences left her feeling disillusioned about relationships.
She continued, “Compared to when I was an active celebrity and now, I’ve seen so many people around me change. Maybe that’s just how things are,” expressing a bittersweet outlook.
Meanwhile, Seo Woo first drew attention in 2007 as the model for Lotte Confectionery’s ice cream brand Ok-Me-Wa-Kka through its distinctive commercials. She made her acting debut the same year in director Jang Jin’s film 'My Son.' Since then, she has shown her unique presence in various works, including 'Cinderella’s Stepsister,' 'Flames of Desire,' 'Crush and Blush,' and 'The Housemaid.'
