As Park Na Rae announces a halt to all broadcast activities following a series of controversies, past remarks from Kian84, Yoo Jae Suk, and Shin Dong Yup regarding her drinking habits are resurfacing.
In August, Kian84 appeared on the YouTube channel Na-rae Sik and offered Park Na Rae some frank advice. “You often introduce people to me. I’m sure some of them are good, but I have a feeling about this one. I sense a bit of a scammer vibe,” he said. “I might be wrong, but you have too many of those people around you,” he added with concern.
In September last year, Park Na Rae’s mother, Go Myung Suk, appeared on Channel A’s 'Dr. Oh's Golden Clinic 'and expressed her worries. “Her health isn’t great, so when she drinks, she gets drunk first and disappears into her room. She’s even had surgery on her throat three times, but she doesn’t take care of herself,” she said. She then tearfully added, “Sometimes she curses at her younger sibling and pushes them to drink. It’s fine for family, but doing that to others could seriously hurt them.”
Nation’s MC Yoo Jae Suk also once mentioned Park Na Rae’s drinking behavior. On a 2018 episode of SBS’s 'Running Man,' when Park Na Rae appeared as a guest, he recalled, “Park Na Rae was the most drunk during the team gathering after the 'SBS Entertainment Awards.'” Yang Se Chan backed the comment, saying, “Sister was completely wasted.”
In 2017, on tvN’s 'Life Bar,' Shin Dong Yup shared that his first impression of Park Na Rae’s drinking habits had been negative, which at the time stirred controversy. He surprised viewers further when he joked to her, “Na Rae, even when I’m drunk, I’m not trash like you.”
Park Na Rae herself has acknowledged concerns over her behavior. On 'Radio Star' in 2016, she said, “Yoo Jae Suk told me, ‘You’re doing well right now, but if you drink, something could happen, and it might hurt your career, so I hope you’d quit drinking.’”
On December 4, it was revealed that Park Na Rae is facing a looming legal battle, as her former managers have signaled intent to file a damages claim of around 100 million KRW (about 68,045 USD). According to reports, on December 3, they requested a provisional seizure of her real estate through the Seoul Western District Court, alleging damages they faced during their employment. They also stated they would proceed with a lawsuit seeking approximately 100 million KRW (about 68,045 USD) in compensation.
Additional allegations followed, including claims that Park Na Rae, as the official representative of her one-person agency N Park Co., Ltd., had misused company funds for personal purposes and had received illegal medical injections from the so-called “injection aunt.”
As the controversy grew, Park Na Rae released a statement on her social media on December 8. “Although misunderstandings and distrust have been resolved, everything is ultimately my fault,” she wrote. “I can no longer cause inconvenience to programs and colleagues, so I will suspend all broadcast activities until everything is settled.”
Following her announcement, she stepped down from programs such as 'I Live Alone,' 'Where Is My Home,' and 'Amazing Saturday.' Her upcoming show, 'I'm Excited Too,' scheduled for next year, has also been canceled. Facing the biggest crisis of her career since her debut, Park Na Rae is expected to remain under public scrutiny for some time.
