The musical 'Death Note' has added Kyuhyun and Kim Sung Cheol to its second casting lineup.
OD Company, the Korean production behind the currently sold-out run, announced that “NEW Light” Kyuhyun will join the cast as Yagami Light, while “L” will once again be played by legendary cast member Kim Sung Cheol.
Kyuhyun takes on the role of Yagami Light, a genius who picks up the supernatural “Death Note” and attempts to realize justice by eliminating criminals. The Super Junior member has long proven himself as a skilled musical actor, breaking stereotypes about idol-turned-actors through his powerful performances in major productions such as 'The Man Who Laughs', 'Frankenstein', 'The Phantom', and 'Werther'.
Kim Sung Cheol, who created a sensation in the previous season with his “manga-come-to-life” visuals, razor-sharp intuition, and meticulous character work as L, returns to the role that helped fuel the “Death Note syndrome.” His unique portrayal—complete with L’s signature slouched posture—combined with expressive acting and dynamic vocals, captivated audiences and dominated the stage.
Based on the popular Japanese manga of the same name, the musical follows the intense psychological and intellectual battle between genius high school student Light, who seeks to punish evil using the Death Note, and the brilliant detective L, who sets out to track him down.
With two new additions joining the existing cast, the production is expected to generate fresh synergy, raising the tension and immersion that define the musical and delivering an even more powerful and overwhelming stage experience.
Death Note, drawing excitement for its new beginnings and the return of a fan-favorite cast member, will run at the D-Cube Link Art Center in Seoul through May 10 next year.
