Actress Ha Yeon Soo has spoken candidly about why she continues to build her career in Japan.
On November 21, the actress shared a heartfelt message on her social media, admitting that life in Tokyo has not been as carefree as it may appear. She wrote, "It's not as if I can smile all the time while living in Tokyo," and added, "I feel very anxious, but I'm doing my best with the work I have."
She further explained that her stay in Japan has grown longer than initially anticipated due to the significant decline in acting opportunities in Korea. She elaborated, "To be honest, as my stay keeps extending, it has become difficult to promise when I'll return because the number of projects in Korea has dropped sharply." She concluded by saying, "I'm the breadwinner, so I need work."
Ha Yeon Soo added that she is determined to assess the full potential of her career overseas despite the challenges of working as a foreigner. “There is certainly a handicap that comes with being a foreigner,” she said. “So through next year and the year after, I plan to push myself to the limit and see how far I can go here before deciding what comes next.”
The actress signed an exclusive contract with the Japanese agency Twin Planet in November 2022 and began actively pursuing projects in Japan. Last year, she appeared in NHK’s morning drama 'Tori ni Tsubasa (Tiger and Her Wings),' playing the role of Choi Hyang Sook. Most recently, she landed a lead role in TV Asahi’s 'Omocha de Asobu (Toy Play Club),' earning attention for her performance.
In addition to her ongoing work in Japan, Ha Yeon Soo has also been cast in 'Dream Stage,' a Korea–Japan co-produced drama by CJ ENM and TBS. She is set to star alongside Lee Yi Kyung in the upcoming project, signaling continued momentum in her expanding cross-border career.
