[CW: Spoiler for Episode 2 Below]

tvN's newest K-drama, 'Typhoon Family,' has become a hot topic after surpassing a 7% viewership rating in just two episodes.

The second episode of tvN's weekend drama 'Typhoon Family' aired on October 12 and recorded an average nationwide viewership rating of 6.8% and a peak of 7.5%. In the Seoul metropolitan area, it achieved an average of 6.3% and a peak of 7.2%, showing an increase from the first episode. The drama ranked first in its time slot across cable and general programming, signaling a strong upward trend, according to Nielsen Korea.

The story follows Kang Tae Poong (played by Lee Jun Ho), who worked at a flower ship and joined Typhoon Company, a small business with 26 years of history that his father left behind. Taking place against the backdrop of the IMF crisis, Kang Tae Poong joins as a new employee, taking charge of a company struggling to stay afloat with no employees, money, or goods to sell.

With the massive economic crisis of the IMF era leaving scars, Kim Tae Poong must face a transformation of his own to save his father's company. At his father's funeral, CEO Choi of Sapdari Logistics (played by Kim Do Young) tried to extort condolence money under the pretext of outstanding payments. Accountant Oh Mi Seon (played by Kim Min Ha) recalled the contract clauses, invoice dates, and even postal stamps, pointing out that the payment deadline had not yet passed, successfully averting the potential extortion.

The latest episode revealed that other characters were not spared from the economic hardship. Mi Seon's younger brother, Oh Mi Ho (played by Kwon Han Sol), received a final acceptance notice from Korean Airlines but saw his employment unexpectedly canceled. Mi Seon then had to give up on attending college. Tae Poong's friend Wang Nam Mo (played by Kim Min Seok) also faced the struggle as his mother, Eul Nyeo (Park Sung Yeon) dismissed from her deputy bank manager post. Even the Typhoon Company faced struggles with only a few employees remaining on the post.

When Tae Poong visited the company to collect his father's belongings, he saw the ledgers and records accumulated over 26 years, reflecting his father's life. So he couldn't let the company sink just yet. So when CEO Choi demanded a joint guarantee and succession of the CEO position, Tae Poong took it upon himself to become an employee of the company.

Initially, Tae Poong intended to return to the flower shop, but changed his mind after discovering a secret safe he found in the office. In the safe, he discovered the bankbooks his father left behind with the names of the employees listed in them, showing how much his father cared for his staff.

Surprisingly, there was a bankbook under Tae Poong's name. In it, his father had deposited 300,000 KRW (approx. 210.21 USD) every month with the message, "Your father supports your dreams. You are always the person I love most. People are more important than results. We are more fragrant than flowers and more valuable than money."

After reading his father's note and understanding his sincere heart, Tae Poong tells Mi Seon that he genuinely wants to learn the work at the company. Mi Seon then relayed his father's last words: "Tae Poong will do well. Please take care of him," while also handing the business card his father had already prepared for Tae Poong. Tae Poong finally sheds the tears he had now allowed himself at the funeral.

The next day, Tae Poong returned to work completely transformed. He appeared with a toned-down appearance, with his hair set neatly, dressed in a suit, and carrying a briefcase. He looked every bit the office worker. Alongside Mi Seok and Ma Jin, he headed to deliver fabric to Daebang Textiles, but the trio was faced with a suspicious atmosphere. The office was unusually tidy, the filing cabinets empty, and even the phone lines disconnected. The traces of life that should have existed in a long-established company were nowhere to be seen.

Sensing something was wrong, Tae Poong warned Mi Seong not to stamp the documents and ran toward the delivery truck loaded with fabric. He instinctively realized that the payment collection after delivery would be impossible. When Ma Jin tried to stop him, Tae Poong threw himself onto the asphalt to block the truck, petals falling around him, recalling the words his father once told him: “Flowers don’t fall; they are doing their best to bear fruit.
