The popular tvN drama 'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty' has finally come to an end, setting new records this year. Despite the popularity, some viewers were divided over the story's happy ending.
'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty' is a fantasy historical drama that follows the story of a top chef who travels back in time, where she meets the worst tyrant, a King with an absolute keen sense of taste. YoonA plays the French chef Yeon Ji Young, who encounters the king with this extraordinary sense of taste.
The final episode, which aired on the 28th, achieved record-breaking ratings: an average of 17.4% in the Seoul metropolitan area with a peak of 20%, and a nationwide average of 17.1% with a peak of 19.4%. The drama not only set its highest ratings yet but also ranked first across all channels in its time slot, including terrestrial networks.
YoonA recently sat down for an interview marking the end of the drama. The actress expressed gratitude and also her thoughts on the drama's conclusion.
She shared, "Since the ratings have been good every episode, I’ve been surprised every day and every week. Ratings feel like something beyond my control, so I didn’t have any specific expectations. I never imagined such a big response and result."
In the finale, Yeon Ji Young wakes up in a modern hospital after her injury and returns to her chef career, revamping the menu using Mangunrok’s recipes. Reuniting with the master chefs, she also meets Lee Heon, who came to the present, completing their love story with a hug and a kiss.
However, some viewers felt the explanation for how Lee Hun arrived in the modern era was insufficient. While it was a happy ending, it left the audience with a sense of an open-ended conclusion.
About the ending, YoonA said, "I’m satisfied. I think it’s the ending everyone dreams of. It seems like a beautiful conclusion." When asked about the possibility of a second season, she added, "I haven’t heard anything about season 2 yet. If the story continues and all the actors can come back together, I would love to do it."
