Actress Lee Min Jung apologized after sparking a controversy over taking a photo in front of a crucifix with a luxury bag.
On September 4, Lee Min Jung wrote on her social media, "P.S. This was not an active cathedral, but a hall/ restaurant space inside a hotel that preserved the walls of a cathedral from hundreds of years ago. I am Christian, though not Catholic, but if taking a photo on what looked like an altar made anyone uncomfortable, I sincerely apologize!!! I will be more careful in the future!!!"
Lee Min Jung accompanied her husband, Lee Byung Hun, to the 82nd Venice International Film Festival for director Park Chan Wook's new film 'No Other Choice.' During the trip, Lee Min Jung uploaded a photo of herself posing with a luxury handbag while standing on what appeared to be a church altar, with a crucifix hanging.
After the photo was posted on her Instagram, netizens criticized her actions, commenting, “This could deeply shock and hurt Catholics,” “Please don’t do fashion shoots in sacred places,” “This is not just a tourist spot but a place of worship. It’s disrespectful,” and “As a Korean, this is embarrassing.”
Meanwhile, the film 'No Other Choice,' starring Lee Min Jung and Son Ye Jin, has been invited to the competition section of the Venice Film Festival. It has received rave reviews from major international media outlets and is being considered a strong contender for the Golden Lion. The film is scheduled for release on September 24.
