Taiwanese star Hsu Kuang Han and South Korean actor Ok Taec Yeon captivated a massive crowd of over 3,000 fans at the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) on September 21st. Their special open talk, 'Hsu Kuang Han x Ok Taec Yeon: Vis-à-Vis,' filled the festival's main outdoor theater, where constant cheers celebrated the two actors.
The event was a major festival highlight, particularly for Hsu, whose new film 'Measure In Love' is one of BIFF's hottest tickets. The movie, selected for the prestigious 'Open Cinema' section, sold out instantly. Fans held signs supporting the film, which marks Hsu's return after his military service.
The talk, centered on the theme of "youth," led to personal reflections from both stars. Ok Taec Yeon fondly recalled his debut with 2PM. "I think of my members," he said. "For our debut stage in 2008, we had to do acrobatics on a cold floor... I'll never forget the thrill after we finished that performance."
Hsu Kuang Han then opened up about his difficult start as an actor. "When I first started, I received so much criticism that I seriously questioned if I could continue this work," he confessed. The turning point came after he perfectly delivered a two-page monologue. "Someone told me, 'You did a really great job.' After receiving that praise, I finally felt confident that I could continue on this path."
The two also discussed their on-screen roles. Hsu said he related most to his character in 'Measure In Love,' explaining, "He loves only one woman, and when I fall in love, I'm also very devoted." He found it much harder to play the killer in 'No Way Out: The Roulette.' Ok Taec Yeon laughingly admitted his character in 'Secret Royal Inspector & Joy,' who avoids work and looks for shortcuts, was very similar to his real self.
They concluded with messages for young people. "I want to tell you not to be impatient," Ok Taec Yeon advised. Hsu hoped his new film would encourage audiences to cherish the preciousness of time.
The 30th Busan International Film Festival opened on September 17th and runs until September 26th. This year, the festival is screening a total of 328 films and has established the new 'Busan Awards' to further celebrate cinematic achievements.
