Girls’ Generation’s YoonA has addressed recent comments about her allegedly having “Center Syndrome,” a slang term describing idols who are uncomfortable unless they are placed at the center during group lineups or performances.
The rumors resurfaced after fellow member Tiffany Young jokingly mentioned in a previous YouTube video that “YoonA has a condition where she can’t live unless she’s at the center.”
In a video titled “YoonA Center Syndrome? Until death? Recovery? Don’t even dream of it” uploaded on August 4 KST to the YouTube channel “Zzanbro Shin Dong Yup”, YoonA appeared alongside actor Ahn Bo Hyun. During the episode, co-host Jung Ho Cheol teasingly asked YoonA, “Are you okay with your seat? You’re not in the center today.”
YoonA calmly replied, “I feel very comfortable.” When reminded of Tiffany’s previous comments, YoonA laughed and said, “There’s no such syndrome. When I saw what the unnies said, I just thought, ‘Oh, they’re just trying to be funny for the show.’” She then added with a smile, “Today, let’s just say this spot is the center.”
Host Shin Dong Yup also joined in on the banter, joking, “If it starts to feel like you’re dying, we can switch seats.”
Tiffany had previously clarified her comment on the “Boogle Boogle” YouTube channel, saying it was meant as a joke and that the real member who insists on standing center is Sooyoung, who “wants to be in the center and admits it herself.”
The playful exchange sparked humorous headlines but ultimately emphasized that YoonA does not have any issue with her position in group settings, putting an end to any speculation.
