Legal Expert raises concerns over Lee Si Young’s IVF pregnancy without her ex-husband’s consent.
A former Seoul Family Court judge, attorney Lee Hyun Gon, has stated that actress Lee Si Young may face legal responsibility after revealing she became pregnant through IVF using a frozen embryo created during her marriage, without her ex-husband’s consent.
On July 8 KST, attorney Lee shared a post on his personal platform stating, “Reporters have reached out regarding Ms. Lee Si Young’s case, so I’ve summarized the legal aspects.”
He explained that since the child will be born after the divorce, the baby would not be considered a child born within marriage. Therefore, a formal recognition procedure is required. “The biological father may voluntarily acknowledge the child, or the mother may file a lawsuit for paternity recognition,” he said. “Once recognition is established, full parental rights and responsibilities—such as custody, visitation rights, inheritance, and child support—will apply.”
However, he pointed out a more controversial issue: “The fact that the child was conceived via IVF without the consent of the ex-husband could raise legal concerns.”
He concluded by emphasizing, “The relationship between the two adults and the legal father-child relationship are separate issues.”
Earlier the same day, actress Lee Si Young announced her pregnancy via social media. “I’m currently pregnant,” she wrote. “I chose to share this now in hopes of preventing unnecessary misunderstandings or speculation later.”
