In episode 4 of tvN’s weekend drama 'Law and the City,' viewers were shown the exhausting realities of junior associate lawyers as they waver between idealism and harsh reality.
The July 13 broadcast achieved its highest ratings yet, with an average of 5.6% and a peak of 6.8% in the Seoul metropolitan area, as well as a 5.6% average and a peak of 6.3% nationwide. Among viewers aged 20 to 49, the drama ranked No. 1 across all cable and general programming channels in its time slot.
In this episode, Ahn Ju Hyung (played by Lee Jong Suk) found himself entangled in complex emotions after facing his ex-girlfriend Park Soo Jung (Lee Yoo Young) in court. Representing Cha Jung Ho (Nam Yoon Ho) in a divorce case, Ju Hyung was shocked to discover Soo Jung was the opposing party. Although he tried to stay focused on the case, his shaken emotions were evident. Park Soo Jung, unwilling to show her misery to someone she once loved, chose not to submit crucial evidence. The trial concluded, but Ahn Ju Hyung was left with an uneasy feeling.
Although Ahn Ju Hyung ultimately won the case and received praise from Cha Jung Ho, he was devastated to learn that Cha Jung Ho had known about his past with Park Soo Jung and had used it to his advantage. Meanwhile, Kang Hee Ji (Moon Ga Young) witnessed Ahn’s emotional turmoil and couldn’t hide her discomfort. When Park Soo Jung waited outside the office to see Ju Hyung, Hee Ji lied that he had already left for the day. She soon regretted the lie, falling into her own emotional conflict.
At the same time, Jo Chang Won (Kang You Seok), Bae Moon Jung (Ryu Hye Young), and Ha Sang Ki (Lim Sung Jae) were each struggling with their own issues. Ha Sang Ki, representing a bereaved family in a DUI case, felt helpless in the face of their deep grief and cold response. Jo Chang Won felt disillusioned after firm head lawyer Sung Yoo Deok (Lee Seo Hwan) took on a high-profile case involving a chaebol heir, while he found himself acting as a cellmate confidant to a criminal. Bae Moon Jung, staring at the two lines on a pregnancy test, was overwhelmed with mixed feelings about her future both at work and in life.
Their sleepless, troubled nights, each consumed by different worries, added emotional depth and relatability, drawing viewers further into the story. Episode 5 of 'Law and the City' airs on July 19 at 9:20 PM.
