Singer and actress Jo Yu Ri, formerly of IZ*ONE, has addressed rumors surrounding her reported appearance fee for the Netflix mega-hit series 'Squid Game.'
On the July 12 episode of MBC’s variety show 'Point of Omniscient Interfere' (Episode 335), Jo Yu Ri appeared as a special guest and opened up about her rising global recognition and the surprising rumors that have followed her recent success.
Having recently starred in both Season 2 and the upcoming Season 3 of 'Squid Game', Jo Yu Ri has been gaining international attention. Host Jun Hyun Moo commented, “This must be one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Squid Game ranked No. 1 in 93 countries around the world. What was the response like for you?”
Jo shared, “My Instagram followers skyrocketed. Before filming, I had about 1.6 million, and now it’s around 7.61 million.” She added, “In the past, most of the comments were from Korean fans, but now I’m seeing so many from international fans too.”
Comedian Yang Se Hyung then brought up a circulating rumor: “There’s talk that your appearance fee was enormous.” Jo responded with a laugh, “There was an article that claimed I received 4.2 billion KRW (approx. $3 million) just for my appearance. The article specifically mentioned only my name.”
She firmly denied the figure, saying, “It’s absolutely untrue. The actual amount is way, way lower,” drawing laughter from the cast and viewers alike.
Jo Yu Ri’s candid response added a refreshing layer of honesty to her growing fame, as fans worldwide continue to watch her rise on and off the screen.
