XngHan (Seunghan) is officially making his solo debut under his newly launched artist brand XngHan&Xoul.
The first single, 'Waste No Time,' shares XngHan's story of waiting for his moment to perform on stage, expressed through two tracks. The single was released on major music sites at 6 PM KST on July 31, along with the music video for the title track. The music video was filmed entirely in Mongolia and captures XngHan&Xoul's free spirit.
The title track, "Waste No Time," is an electronic dance song that showcases XngHan's ambitions as he stands at a new starting point. Featuring bright, clear synth leads, a powerful bass, and a catchy, addictive melody, the lyrics express the youthful determination to seize the moment without hesitation and move forward.
The second track, "Heavenly Blue," which XngHan participated in writing and choreographing, is a refreshing and trendy chill house-based EDM pop song. Despite its fast tempo, it blends smooth kicks, dreamy synth pads, and emotional vocals. The lyrics express the pure emotions of youth, intertwining longing and excitement for someone.
To celebrate, XngHan interviewed with media outlet StarNews and shared his thoughts on his debut. Below are the full questions and answers:
Q: How do you feel about your solo debut, and how did the idea for the artist brand 'XngHan&Xoul' come about?
A: "More than anything, I feel excited. I like taking on new challenges, so while preparing for my solo debut, I discussed with the company staff how I could show a fresher side of myself. That's how XngHan&Xoul was born. It was created with the idea of keeping many possibilities open while working with my crew. I'm curious myself about how XngHan&Xoul will grow. So please look forward to it."
Q: Why did you choose to debut with two dancers, and how has the teamwork been?
A: "My biggest passion is dance, so I wanted to showcase powerful dancing from the start. That's why I naturally teamed up with two dancers around my age. (I call them my 'Xoulies'!) I was so nervous meeting them for the first time that I kept changing outfits ot make a good impression (laughs). We clicked right away and have been having a great time working together."
Q: How would you describe this single in one phrase, and what's your personal recommendation?
A: "I'd call it 'A single that captures a summer's day.' Since it's being released in the summer, 'Waste No Time' feels like a summer day, while 'Heavenly Blue' feels like a summer night. If you're going on a trip, I recommend listening to 'Waste No Time' while driving for a refreshing vibe, and 'Heavenly Blue' at the end of a joyful day for something dreamy and emotional."
Q: What was your first impression when you heard the two tracks?
A: "As soon as I heard them, I thought 'Wow! I really want to do this.' Both are electronic dance tracks, which is a genre I've always liked. The Xoulies also loved the demos when we first listened to them together."
Q: Any memorable moments during the recording or filming of "Waste No Time"?
A: "The recording was challenging because the song has so many syllables and a tricky rhythm, so I paid a lot of attention to it. As for the music video, the memory that stands out the most is running with the Xoulies in Mongolia. It was the first time in a while that I sprinted like that, and I couldn't stop smiling. It felt refreshing!"
Q: Like the lyrics of 'Waste No Time,' are you good at managing your time? When do you feel your time is never wasted?
A: "Honestly, I only recently started paying attention to time management, so it still feels a bit awkward (laughs). But whenever I get the chance, I try to practice as much as possible. Watching other dancers is time I never feel wasted, since it motivates me to work harder. Lately, I've also been taking good care of my voice. Even in the heat, I drink room-temperature water instead of cold water, and I bought a humidifier that I use diligently."
Q: You wrote the lyrics for "Heavenly Blue" and also created the choreography. How was that experience?
A: "Since the song is dedicated to fans, I thought about the right direction and wrote lyrics that I wanted to share. Thanks to the staff's positive feedback, I got this wonderful opportunity. For the choreography, the Xoulies and I had great synergy, so it was fun to create. We focused on capturing the song's vibe, emphasizing 'freedom' rather than rigid structure to give a sense of 'we're doing it our way'."
Q: "Heavenly Blue expresses emotions through colors. If you had to describe your current feelings as a color, what would it be?
A: "Red! To me, red represents passion, and lately, my passion has been off the charts...(laughs)."
Q: Any project you definitely want to try through ‘XngHan&Xoul’? What’s your long-term goal?
A: "I love dancing but also singing, so I’d like to try a project with a live band someday. My ultimate goal is to release an album filled with songs I’ve written and composed myself. I believe lyrics are especially important in songs, so I spend my free time reading books and listening to various kinds of music - sort of doing my own 'research'."
Q: A final message for your fans?
A: "If I had to say just one thing, it would be: 'You’re not light, but you’re the one who makes me shine.' That’s actually my favorite line from 'Heavenly Blue,' which I helped write. Thinking about the fans who always support me made the lyrics come surprisingly easily. I want to thank everyone who inspires me. I worked hard while you waited, so I hope you enjoy it!"
