Singer/actor Lee Seung Gi will appear on a variety program after cutting ties with his in-laws.
On April 30, KBS2's 'Immortal Songs' confirmed that Lee Seung Gi will participate in the recording scheduled for May 12.
The recording will be part of a special episode, “2025 Oh My Star.” Ten teams will perform as duets, including Choi Sung Soo & Ahn Sung Hoon, Park Wan Kyu & Baek Chung Kang, Lim Tae Kyung & Jung Sun Ah, Lee Young Hyun & Son Seung Yeon, BMK & Zo Zazz, Ha Do Kwon & Lee Areumsol, Lee Seung Gi & Lee Hong Gi, Kim Joon Ho & Choi Soo Ho, Kim Ki Tae & La Poem, and Hong Ja & Lee Soo Yeon.
Lee Seung Gi’s appearance has drawn attention, coming just days after he publicly announced on the 29th that he was severing ties with his in-laws. Through his agency, he stated, “Although my father-in-law was previously fined in an appellate retrial for ongoing illegal conduct, he is now being prosecuted again for similar violations. As someone who has waited for the outcome based on family trust, I can no longer contain my despair over my father-in-law’s misconduct.”
He continued, “I deeply regret having spoken recklessly last year without fully reviewing the matter related to my father-in-law. I believe illegal acts must be justly punished. I sincerely apologize to the victims who may have suffered due to my rash judgment. This incident has severely damaged the trust within our family to an irreparable degree, and after much deliberation, my wife and I have decided to cut ties with her family. From now on, I will live with a stronger sense of responsibility and uphold sound values for a healthier society.”
Lee Seung Gi’s appearance is also drawing attention in light of recent tensions between KBS and One Hundred, the label under Big Planet Made (Lee Seung Gi’s agency, led by MC Mong). In March, Xiumin’s scheduled appearance on 'Music Bank' was canceled, leading to the withdrawal of other artists like Lee Soo Geun and Lee Mu Jin. Lee Seung Gi’s participation may indicate a resolution to the conflict.
Meanwhile, KBS2’s 'Immortal Songs' airs every Saturday at 6:05 PM KST.
