Another Korean drama is struggling to gain viewership despite the initial anticipation. Although top actress Go Hyun Jung stars in the drama, 'Namib' is struggling to surpass the 2% ratings mark, with just two episodes left until its conclusion.
The drama premiered on December 23, recording a modest nationwide rating of 1.4% (Nielsen Korea). While it showed potential by climbing into the 2% range by its third episode, it has since failed to maintain momentum, possibly due to competition from tvN’s 'The Queen Who Crowns,' which airs in the same time slot.
As a new cable channel, ENA faces structural challenges in attracting high ratings and widespread attention. However, the success of previous ENA dramas underscores Namib’s underwhelming performance.
ENA’s top-rated dramas include 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' (17.5%), 'Crash' (6.6%), 'Your Honor' (6%), 'Not Others' (5.5%), and 'The Kidnapping Day' (5.2%).
While 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' captivated audiences globally, and other ENA dramas like 'Crash' and 'Your Honor' achieved notable ratings and buzz, 'Namib’s inability to break past 2% makes its lackluster reception even more apparent.
Namib follows the story of Kang Soo Hyun (played by Go Hyun Jung), a fired star producer, and Yoo Jin Woo (played by Ryeoun), a dismissed trainee, as they pursue their respective goals. Although the drama promised a glamorous, conflict-driven story set in the entertainment industry, it fell short in both ratings and impact.
Go Hyun Jung made her return to the small screen after three years with 'Namib,' following her 2021 drama 'Reflection of You.' However, despite high expectations, the drama’s weak character development and lack of compelling storytelling have hindered its success, leaving fans and critics disappointed.
