The year-end award ceremonies are facing cancelations and rescheduling due to the aftermath of the Jeju Air passenger plane tragedy. This decision follows the declaration of a national mourning period, which will last until January 4.
On December 30, KBS released a statement announcing, “To join in mourning the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane tragedy, we have canceled the broadcasts of the 2024 KBS Drama Awards and the 2025 Countdown Show LIGHT NOW.”
The 2024 KBS Drama Awards, originally scheduled to air live on KBS 2TV at 7 PM on the 31st, will no longer feature a photo wall red carpet event or live broadcast. Instead, the program will be pre-recorded. Details regarding the broadcast schedule for the pre-recorded '2024 KBS Drama Awards' and the announcement of winners will be released at a later date.
On the morning of December 29, Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, en route from Thailand, tragically crashed into the outer wall of Muan International Airport. Of the 181 passengers aboard, 179 lost their lives, and 2 sustained severe injuries. In the wake of this devastating incident, the government declared a national mourning period from December 29 to January 4.
