The first day of the 2024 Korea Grand Music Awards (KGMA) took place on November 16th at the Inspire Arena in Incheon. This "Artist Day" celebrated the K-Pop artists who shaped the year's music scene.
While many awards were presented, the Daesang (Grand Prize) remains the most prestigious honor of many Korean award shows. On this day, three artists were presented with the Daesang:
- ZEROBASEONE: Grand Honor's Award for outstanding musical accomplishment.
- (G)I-DLE: Grand Record Award for the most loved album.
- NewJeans: Grand Artist Award for outstanding activities and public appeal.
Netizens were shocked to see that aespa, who've made multiple successful comebacks this year did not receive either of the three Daesangs: "There are three Daesangs, so where's aespa?" "There's no aespa? Isn't this year the year of aespa?" "Without aespa, it's not a complete awards ceremony," "Surprisingly, there's no aespa."
However, there will also be a second day of the 2024 KGMA held at the same stadium on November 17 entitled the "Song Day" and some netizens noted that it might be aespa's turn to shine on this stage instead, "aespa will be appearing tomorrow," "They will probably give it to aespa tomorrow."
Meanwhile, congratulations to ZEROBASEONE, (G)I-DLE, and NewJeans for receiving these prestigious awards at the first ever KGMA.
