ENHYPEN's Ni-Ki issued an apology for the comment he made about the March 1st Independence Movement Day.
On March 1, Ni-Ki wrote on Weverse, "Hello. This is Ni-Ki. I apologize for carelessly commenting on such an important national holiday as March 1st. I've realized my mistake and have promptly deleted the post. I will be more careful in the future."
Meanwhile, Ni-Ki received backlash when he was interacting with fans on Weverse and replied to a fan about the national holiday. A fan wrote that they have the day off on March 1, and Ni-Ki responded, "Is tomorrow a holiday? I'm envious, we don't have holidays or weekends (off)."
The March 1st Independence Movement Day is a national holiday in Korea, commemorating the March 1, 1919, declaration of independence against Japanese rule during the period of Japanese occupation of Korea.
After making his remark, Ni-Ki faced backlash from Korean netizens, who accused him of being insensitive to the significance of the national holiday. Given his role as a K-pop artist promoting in Korea, they argued that he should have a deeper understanding of Korean history and culture.
Korean netizens also reacted to Ni-Ki's apology and commented, "Wow, just three lines?" "Can't believe he just wrote three sentences," "He should at least ask Chat GPT to write a proper apology," and "He needs to go study about Korean history."
... But he just reacts the same way anyone react when others have a day off and you don't. If we are realistic when we have a day like this it's just : " yeah vacation !!" and not " I need to write a philosophical comment about History". I don't think he need to apologize to have a genuine reaction
