Actress Angelababy banned from Weibo and Douyin after attending Lisa's 'Crazy Horse' show

On November 1, fans were surprised to find that they could no longer interact with Lisa on Weibo after they discovered the idol's Weibo account had been deleted.

Although there was no explanation for the account deletion except the message stating, "This account can no longer be viewed due to reports of violations of laws, regulations, and Weibo community agreement," many netizens speculated that it was due to Lisa's involvement in performing at the Crazy Horse, a famous Parisian Cabaret.

Earlier in September, Lisa made her grand debut at the Crazy Horse venue, with many celebrity acquaintances attending the show to show their support. While Lisa received support from international fans, she faced backlash from more conservative fans in Asia as Crazy Horse is a burlesque show.

China, in particular, is recognized for its stringent regulations around media and entertainment. The China Performing Arts Association has mentioned that the promotion of indecent and lewd performances are categorically prohibited in the country. This has led many people to speculate that Lisa's Weibo removal was possibly a consequence of her burlesque performance at Crazy Horse.

Now, there is another Chinese celebrity who has been affected by this. Famous Chinese actress Angelababy is no longer allowed to post on Weibo, and her Douyin (Chinese TikTok) account has also been blocked.

This was following photos of fans on social media allegedly showing Angelababy seen entering and leaving the Crazy Horse venue. Therefore, many speculate that Angelababy's social media accounts were blocked for the reasons Lisa's Weibo has been shut down.

In an Instagram post in early October, Crazy Horse denied that Angelababy visited their venue.

Angelababy, born Angela Yeung Wing, is one of China’s most celebrated actresses. Her meteoric rise to fame can be attributed to her compelling performances in both television dramas and blockbuster films, earning her critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. However, Angelababy finds herself in a challenging situation as she navigates through a complex period of career rejuvenation, similar to other celebrities who have previously faced China's stringent censors and allegations of financial discrepancies, including tax evasion. The suspension of her most prominent social media accounts further complicates Angelababy’s path to career recovery.

China entertainment biz has been trying to cancel Angelababy for years. They don't really like rich women who are also beautiful over there. This is just an excuse to erase her.

The Chinese government is so strict. It has a stubborn resistance to adapt changes. It's archaic. I feel bad for Angelababy.
